For me, it added to the Grindhouse feel of it all. Grindhouse movies often had long, pointless scenes that were boring between the action. Plus, in my opinion, it helped a bit in fleshing out the fact that those women were not to be fucked with. And come on, who doesn't like talking about perversions and why you need a pistol so you can do your laundry whenever the hell you damn well please?Ack wrote: My problem with Death Proof is that it focuses WAY too long on the talking. It got so bad, I forgot Kurt Russell was in the movie. That was the moment I felt that Death Proof was the weakest part of the Grindhouse set. When I think of a good car movie, I think of Vanishing Point, Duel, Smoky and the Bandit, or a variety of race movies ranging from Cannonball Run to Death Race 2000. There was just far too long a break in the action for Death Proof to be effective for me.
What was the last movie you've seen?

You can put me in the Death Proof>Planet Terror camp too. But I also love me some QT dialogue, so there's that.

I've long loved Deathproof for just this reason.

It was the roundtable scene with the stunt girl retelling some boring story that did me in. Other than that it was livable. And most those old grindhouse movies were shorter than Death Proof as well.

Just got back from IRON MAN 3. I'll just repost what I said on one of my other boards:
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Thanks for the info. I'll look into it when I get off of work.indecks wrote:There's a couple of torrents out there with all of the Bill Nye episodes, as well as The Eyes of Nye. Eyes of Nye isn't as cool as Science Guy, but still pretty cool.
I'd buy the Bill Nye DVDs if they were available to the public. As far as I know, you can only buy them if you're a school, and you have to pay some ungodly amount for them.
I haven't watched Tokyo Fist in a long time...Hobie-wan wrote:Tokyo Fist is pretty good too. Bullet Ballet was a little slow to me though. Haven't seen A Snake in June or the one after that.
Snake in June has been downloaded and waiting for a couple of years. I had planned on watching it while in the hospital while waiting for my daughter to be born, but never got around to it. Might watch it soon though.

Terrible and stupid, but with a neat score.
