Summer Game Challenge 2013 - Begin when ready!

Heh, there's a copy of Eye of the Beholder on Sega CD that's been sitting at a pawn shop nearby for several months now. Missing its manual, 8 bucks. Should I nab if it's still there next time I pop in?

AppleQueso: Contra and Mega Man are two of my favorite NES games, and Lunar: The Silver Star is one of my favorite RPGs. I hope you place these on your list so that I can read your impressions.

I've played about half of Mega Man, but never actually beaten it, and I feel I need to correct that. Kinda the same thing with Contra, I've kinda beaten it before using the 30 lives code and abusing those infinite continues, but I want to beat it "properly." At the very least without the code, not sure I'm good enough to beat it with no continues .

Lunar I've been excited to get started on. I've got a friend who was a big fan of the Playstation remake, so I'd been meaning to try the game out for a long time. I decided I wanted to play the Sega CD original though, as it kinda gave me an excuse to pick up some Sega CD games. I'd like to eventually play both versions, as I've heard that the remake makes a lot of changes. It'll be interesting to compare the two versions down the road.

The Sega CD version of Lunar: The Silver Star is considerably harder in the beginning than the Saturn/PS1 remakes. I would definitely consider both CD and PS1 versions of the two main Lunar games to be great classics and among my own personal favorites, they're a real good pair of games.

I've noticed online that preferences between the Sega CD and Ps1 versions are all over the place. I've seen people who prefer CD versions for both, people who prefer the PS1 versions for both, and people who prefer the CD version of one along with the Ps1 version of the other. It just makes me want to try out both versions of both games when I can. Right now I only have the CD version of the first one, but assuming I enjoy this I'll be picking up the sequel before long I think.

AQ I've played Lunar on both the Sega CD and PS1 and would also add my voice to those suggesting the PS1 is where it is at. Plus, there's lots of nice bonuses and what not with that version.

These don't qualify, in my (factually correct) opinion:
-Diddy Kong Racing

Diddy Kong Racing is the 6th best selling game on the N64, ahead of stuff like Pokémon Stadium, Majoras Mask and Starfox 64 (according to Wikipedia). It sold 4 and a half million copies.

It's average rating on GameRankings is a very respectable 88.65%.

It's often cited as being the best kart racing game on N64, ahead of Mario kart 64, which is often listed as the best in the Mario Kart series.

So you're saying a massively popular, high scoring game that has been described as better than one of Nintendo's most popular series doesn't count?

I honestly thought people would question stuff like Cybernator or Shinobi before Diddy Kong Racing

Not to mention that Diddy Kong Racing came as a pack-in title with some of N64s.

Diddy Kong Racing is one of those games that despite being pretty popular in its day is largely forgotten now.

AQ I've played Lunar on both the Sega CD and PS1 and would also add my voice to those suggesting the PS1 is where it is at. Plus, there's lots of nice bonuses and what not with that version.

If/when I pick up that particular version (and assuming I enjoy it on CD, I certainly will), I definitely plan to find a nice copy with all the cool goodies intact.
