Also, sweet, someone else to suffer through Blaster Master with me! Not that it's bad, but it sure ain't easy.
Thanks for that. I've been meaning to pick up a SMS anyway, so this may convince to go ahead and do it, and grab a copy of Fantasy Zone along with it.

I attempted to play through Blaster Master, again, sometime last year but gave up, again... I consider this my final attempt. The game is amazing, but painfully hard to beat. I may revisit it again in the future, but if I can't beat it this time, I'm done trying.

So far most of this entire year has been a gaming challenge, so I'm not sure what to put on my list. Yet.

I do know I need to get around to beating Willy Beamish.

Just to throw out some ideas:

-Siren (PS2; hey, the PS2 is retro now. :P )
-Shadowgate Classic (GBC)
-Resident Evil 2 (PS1; 'cause I'm playing it right now. lol)
-Earthbound (SNES)
-Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening (Will probably play it on VC)
-Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition (PS2; This game would probably take all summer to beat..)
-Harvest Moon (NTSC-J. SNES. I think I'll need hobie to put a new battery in this one if I play it.)

I actually think many of the choices are pretty good so far.

Here's a list of stuff I'd say "not a classic" about, just to cause you consternation. I'm defining "classic" as a game that regularly makes lists such as "Top X games of all time" or even "Top X games for a genre" and maybe maybe "Top X games for a system"

These don't qualify, in my (factually correct) opinion:

-Diddy Kong Racing
-Beats of Rage
-Psychic World
-all of Ack's list except 7th Saga, Donkey Kong Country, and Pilotwings (I guess). I think the RPGs selected are mostly "also ran" for the genre/generation/console
-Onimusha 2
-Terranigma (this is kinda like Ack's middling RPGs, in my mind)
-Mischief Makers ("cult" classic ≠, classic)
-Witcher 2 (a lost "classic" of 2012!)
-Siren (see "Mischief Makers" above)

smh

In fairness, here's my early thinking. Some obvious "not a classic" games here, too

Final Fantasy Tactics
MediEvil
Ys II
Beyond Oasis
an Alex Kidd game
Turrican
Duck Tales
Magic Carpet
GunValkyrie
Rush N' Attack
Dark Chambers
Chase H.Q.
Planescape Torment
A Commander Keen game

Been kinda brainstorming a bit myself.

So far I know I'm wanting to tackle these at least:
Lunar: The Silver Star (Sega CD)
Shining Force (Genesis)
Rocket Knight Adventures (Genesis)
Mega Man (NES)
Contra (NES)

(those Classic enough for you Dsh? )

I've got some more in mind, but I'm trying to work out what all I think I can finish in a reasonable time frame. Gonna see if I can actually stick to this thing this year, last year I just kinda bailed out without doing much of anything.

Other ideas...

Virtua Fighter 2, 3
Eye of the Beholder*
Wipeout
Sega Bass Fishing?

A SCUMM game that I'm not familiar with?

*though I'm pretty set on Grandia 2 so the chance of me playing thru two RPGs is very slim.

Here is my list from 2012:
1. Hotel Dusk Room: Room 215 (NDS)
2. Ecco the Dolphin (GBA port)
3. Final Fantasy II (GBA port) COMPLETE
4. Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Wii) COMPLETE
5. Starfox 64 (3DS port) COMPLETE
6. Sonic CD (NGC port) COMPLETE
7. Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (Intellivision - NDS port) COMPLETE
8. Guardian Heroes (SS)
9. Galactic Attack (SS)
10. Decathlete (SS)
After much thought and consideration, here is my list for 2013:

1. Hotel Dusk Room: Room 215 (DS)
2. Ecco the Dolphin (GBA port)
3. Wario Land 4 (GBA)
4. Wario Land 3 (GBC)
5. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GC)
6. Nectaris: Military Madness (PS1)
7. Return Fire (PS1 port)
8. Guardian Heroes (SS)
9. Galactic Attack (SS)
10. Decathlete (SS)

Hotel Dusk, Ecco the Dolphin, Guardian Heroes, Galactic Attack, and Decathlete were all on my 2012 list; so, they are back again this year. Likewise, Nectaris and Return Fire were on my list until my PS2 stopped reading PS1 games. (I have a new PS2 now; so, disc read errors should not be an issue this summer.) I have been playing Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door for months, and it is time for me to go ahead and finish it up. Finally, I just played through Wario Land II (GBC), and since I enjoyed it so much, I think that I am going to plow through some of the other portable Wario Land titles. (Depending on how much I like those games, I might add Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land (GB) and Wario Land (VB) to my list. My copy of SML3 is not holding a save, however, and I would - unfortunately - have to emulate Virtual Boy Wario Land.)
