Re: Nintendo 3DS
I hated it when I played it. The first handheld I ever actually owned was a DS lite. I liked how it could play some of the GBA games that intrigued me and the new DS games.MrPopo wrote:I'm seeing a lot of people in this thread who didn't grow up with the original Game Boy.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Well I placed my order, together with a copy of Starfox
. Any good cheap games on the e-shop btw? How much memory does the 3DS XL come with out of the box?

Re: Nintendo 3DS
The original 3DS included a 2GB SD card. I want to say the XL has a bigger one than that, perhaps a 4GB.ZeroAX wrote:Well I placed my order, together with a copy of Starfox. Any good cheap games on the e-shop btw? How much memory does the 3DS XL come with out of the box?
There are a selection of good games on the eShop, of varying lengths and prices. I'd recommend having a look at these ones:
Pullblox
Fallblox
Dillon's Rolling Western
Gunman Clive
Liberation Maiden
Crimson Shroud
HarmoKnight
The Denpa Men
Hama Samurai
Splash or Crash
Tokyo Crash Mobs
Hydroventure: Spin Cycle
Nano Assault EX
The prices vary a fair bit, from about 2 euros for Gunman Clive, up to a pretty hefty 15 euros or so for HarmoKnight. It's worth keeping an eye out, because sales do actually happen and can save you a little bit.
There's also a small selection of Game Boy, GB Color and NES games on e-shop too. They cost about 3-4 euros for classic game boy, 5-6 for GBC and 5 for NES. There's a few worthwhile ones on there - the likes of Kirby's Dream Land 2, Avenging Spirit and especially Trip World will save you a good bit compared to the cartridges.

Christmas day of 1990 there was much Tetris in my parents house. Other than my Japanese launch GBA, my original Gameboy got the most play out of any of my handhelds.MrPopo wrote:I'm seeing a lot of people in this thread who didn't grow up with the original Game Boy.
Re: Nintendo 3DS
Add me to the list of "Game Boy Pocket".
My first experience with a Hand-held was actually the Game Gear, but It ate through batteries too quickly, and it wasn't technically "mine".

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Don't worry I started with a Game Boy classic, even though I bought it the same year the Pocket came out.
So if a guy who likes Platformers, RPGs, Strategy games, Puzzle games, Beat Em Ups and some Arcade like titles wants to get a bunch of cheap games (less than 5€ per title, unless it's THAT good) what should he get? Also, I don't think I'll be buying any VC games, specially since I probably own like 80% of the Game Boy games that might interest me.
I googled it, the 3DS XL comes with a 4 gig SD card. Which is very generous by stingy Nintendo standards. The original 3DS included a 2GB SD card. I want to say the XL has a bigger one than that, perhaps a 4GB.

Not really any good downloadable platformers unless you start looking at DSiWare. Can't think of any strategy games either.ZeroAX wrote: I googled it, the 3DS XL comes with a 4 gig SD card. Which is very generous by stingy Nintendo standards.

Gunman Clive is kinda like MegaMan, that might fill your platforming itch. It's also under 5 euros for sure. Mighty Switch Force is an option too - it's a sort of arcadey platformer game with a little bit of shooting and lots of puzzle solving.
RPGs - Crimson Shroud is by the guy behind Tactics Ogre and FF Tactics, and is a weird little experiement RPG with tabletop gaming elements. The Denpa Men is a unique dungeon crawler where you build a party by searching out Denpa Men in real life using Wifi signals. Both games are a little over 5 euros though - probably about 7 or 8.
Arcadey games - Nano Assault EX is a shmup, Liberation Maiden is a flight combat game of sorts, and Splash or Crash is a high score challenge obstacle course game. Again though, most of them are above 5 Euros - Liberation Maiden is about the same price as Denpa Men and Crimson Shroud and Nano Assault is significantly more. Splash or Crash is about 3 Euros though.
I'd definitely recommend Hana Samurai too, it's kinda like Punch Out but you beat up multiple small enemies in a beat-em-up style. It's about 5 euros too, but be warned - it's very short, maybe 2 or 3 hours tops.
The main issue is pricing - most of the games on e-Shop seem to be about £7-8 from what I've seen, so likely 8-9 Euros.
