I wouldn't!

Saw another two films yesterday.

The first one was Fargo, which I really wanted to watch after having so much fun with Fiasco, a roleplayig game that simulates that kind of films. It's a good film and I was very open to it but I never went before a smile or a snicker, it would have left me cold were I a little less receptive. Perhaps I expected something funnier or nastier or more sardonic.

Then I finally decided to watch Wreck-it Ralph which I found mediocre and bland. Yet another film where an animated outsider wants to be accepted by people who are, by all means, a bunch of douchebags. This premise is especially undermined by the complete lack of phatos in the main character, we never know how he feels like, we are just told by the screenwriter. I never felt Ralph had any emotions and the rest of the cast were barely characters.

The videogame idea is also really thin, there are no themes taken from what is a very colorful world and what little there was was soon abandoned in favor of a candy-themed world.

It only got a snicker out of me: The badass Samus-clone, being female, has the most tragic past. Found that very sardonic.

If you've never lived in the Midwest of the States, a lot of the jokes will go right over your head.

Possibly, though I surprised myself by finding many.

For example, when the female officer's car won't start and she says "Darned solenoid" I laughed for minutes.

Luke wrote:If you enjoyed the movie, read the books. And as a film student you should know to read the book before seeing the screen adaptation.
Even if I had read the books first, my philosophy is that any good adaptation should be able to stand on its own and succeed or fail purely on its own merits. For example, several of the Harry Potter films are not good adaptations of the novels at all, what with removing half the plot and inserting major plot elements that weren't in the books, but as movies in and of themselves, they're very good. By contrast, the film version of Desperation sticks fairly close to the original Stephen King novel, but it's a terrible adaptation. Fidelity to the source material doesn't always mean a better film.

That goes unsaid, but when a movie is based on a book the first question asked is "How does it hold up to the book?" which is more than a valid question since every movie based on a book has the tag "based on the book".

Re-Animator.

How have I gone 27 years without seeing this? Loved it.

Underworld: Whatever the most recent one is.

I think this was the 4th? I skipped the one that took place in medieval times or whatever but I've seen the rest. I think this might be the best one. FX have gotten good enough that they can now do more cool action sequences within their budget, which is all that's really mattered in this series. But seriously, how many shots are there of Selene falling from the top of the screen and landing in a cool pose? There were at least 7 in this film.

Saw Evil Dead the other night. Was interesting was extremely gory, but for whatever reason felt really light to me. By that I mean there seemed to be a deep story behind the characters they didn't go to far into it so I didn't feel horrible when they inevitably lost their limbs and lives. Overall it gave it a very campy horror movie feel but in a good way.

Only Issues(SPOILERS)
These are all nitpicking :P.

The Chainsaw scene with Mia. I kind of wish they hadn't shown the machete when she got in the room because who the hell takes a chainsaw over a machete. Especially when the chainsaw needs to be refueled and cranked. Don't get me wrong I really really liked the chainsaw scene and was waiting for it to come the entire movie, but I lost a little respect for Mia when she passed on the machete.

Also Mia's dirt nap brought her back a little to clean and uninjured. Seriously she boiled her skin and split her tongue in half :P yet a little dirt nap and she is good as new.

Finally I was kind of disappointed not to see anymore of the cult that appeared at the very beginning. They seemed really interesting but were only on screen about 2-3 minutes tops.

Two amazing movies based off of H.P. Lovecraft's work...
May have a marathon coming up weekend after next. This weekend is going to be a Stanley Kubrick marathon, as Cara hasn't seen a single one of these movies. :|
