A co-worker and I discovered that we mutually love The Secret of Monkey Island. He's twenty-odd years older than me and has children my age, and neither one of us expected the connection. I made him a little Guybrush magnet for his office whiteboard and he said, "I think we're the only two people in this building who know who this is."

I recommended Day of the Tentacle to him and he recommended LOOM to me. It's totally awesome to find people like this.

I picked up Out of this World complete for about $12 on Amazon. I noticed they go for a lot more on eBay, not sure what the deal with that is. Anyways, it's super complete with all the floppies (one 5.25" and two 3.5"), manuals/various papers and the "copy protection" wheel.

I get a real chuckle out of how games use to be. Out of this World came on two different mediums (the 5.25" floppy and the two 3.5 floppies"). So right off the bat you get two copies of the game. What's even more interesting is that the very first thing in the manual is a recommendation to copy the game disks for yourself. Like, they actually recommend to back up the game, and it's the first thing they tell you to do! MissionForce: CyberStorm came with two CDs, with the full game on each CD. They wanted you to give one to a friend so you could play online together. Could you imagine that?

Anyways, Out of this World ran flawlessly, but it blew up my computer. Actually, I don't know what happened, but after restarting from playing 'World, Windows 98 blew up and I can't even get it to reinstall. I'm gonna have to check the HDD and make sure it's still OK.

But long story short, I wanted to talk about Out of this World... I didn't realize that the SNES version (and other consoles?) added music to the game. I played the DOS version for the first time yesterday, and at first I thought it wasn't configured correctly and that's why the music wasn't playing. I was kinda looking forward to playing the DOS version, but to be honest, it doesn't seem as good as the SNES port if the music is missing.

Ha! You never see that anymore. Now you have to read a TOS a mile long and swear on your mother's grave that you won't pirate the game.

I always smile when I read an old manual and it tells me to back up the game.

The code wheel thing for Out of this World is absolutely hysterical. It's like the front cover to Led Zeppelin III (vinyl). Instead of inputting some alphanumeric code, you are given a letter and number. You have to set the wheel to that number and input the symbols to the corresponding letter.

I got my computer back up and running, it had a bad stick of RAM. Anyways, I'm kinda torn between playing Out of this World in DOS or on the SNES. The SNES version has the music, which is great, but it's not full screen like the DOS version. Also, the SNES version has load times, which is kinda bizarre. I wish I could play the DOS version with the music from the SNES version.

I read on Wikipedia that "The game does not include Interplay's extra music."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Another_Wo ... re-release

Other than that, it sounds awesome. And for the ~$5 that it goes for, I'll definitely pick it up at some point regardless.

The "copy protection" of a lot of games back then was kind of a riot. They'd have you look up information in the manual or something. Some of them were really creative.

I have it, but I can only ship it to you in some hours. If no one else posts it before then, when I get home I'll upload it.
