I am actually going through this right now.

I mean, I grew up with a Game Boy, but I mostly played that because, well, I had no console, and I was always being dragged around everywhere. Once had a console though, I pretty much dropped handheld gaming.

For the first time, I have actually found myself sitting on my couch, in front of my tv, playing a handheld, and thoroughly enjoying it.

Haha. Apparently an user left his computer with Boardgamegeek opened and when her kid saw the Taiko avatar I use there she liked it and thumbed me, as well as giving me a small "tip" in the forum's currency.

I will have to agree with this. I got the Game Boy at the peak of its popularity and enjoyed it at times even more than my new Super NES, if you can believe that. I also loved the Super Game Boy attachment. When the GBA came out, I was seriously contemplating a purchase, but my attention was deflected towards a rockbottom price on a brand new Dreamcast, and the rest they say, is history.

Until last year. Joining over here and reading how good the GBA was, I was turned off at first by the prices of just an SP alone on Ebay, until I finally snagged one for under $30. It took 3 weeks to get here (post office snafu), but once I started playing F-Zero Maximum Velocity and Konami Arcade Advanced, I knew I had to get more. It's been a little over a year now, and I now have 27 GBA games, of which I've only seriously played about half  That's just how amazing it has been. Playing Final Fantasy V for the first time in over 15 years, and finally snagging a title I've wanted since I saw it in magazines in 2001, Advance Wars. GBA is simply the best, and all the neat gadgets that the Gamecube had to connect to it and the games are great too.

You don't know that for certain sir. I really wanted to like Bioshock. I started the game 3 times and wasted more time than I should have giving it a chance. Something about it just really annoyed me and it made me not want to play it. I had to force myself to keep trying, hoping something would flip so I could enjoy it. :P

That's surprising, BioShock is excellent. Maybe go back another iteration to System Shock 2? :P

I gave SS2 a couple of tries too and it also annoyed me. :(

I mean I didn't hate them like Deus Ex, but something just wasn't right about them to me. I wasn't enjoying myself.

How far you got? SS and BS (and DX) are both story driven games. If you go in with a Doom/Quake mindset, it won't be enjoyable. And SS, like Deus Ex, is really more of a RPG which you play from a FPS perspective rather than a straight up FPS game. And survival horror plays a big part in System Shock too.

Deus Ex especially is a lengthy game for a FPS. It took me many hours before it really immersed me with it's story. But from that point on, I just kept on playing and playing. If I recall correctly it took me 12½-13 hours to beat System Shock 2, but it felt like 19-20 (not that it was boring, I played it through in 3 or 4 days). There's a longplay of it in youtube that's a bit under 5½ hours long (5h16min)
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Oh I like RPG as well. I wasn't playing them like a plain old FPS.

SS2, I can't remember exactly how far I made it as it's been quite a while, but I did try more than once to give it a chance. I remember heading down a ramp into a lap with monkeys or something in it. I got a little past where you start running into the former humans. That's about all I can tell you.

Bioshock I got past the first plot twist with the submersible ultimatum on my furthest run, so a decent way into the game.

Deus Ex when I was trying it back in the day I never past the first boss in the Statue of Liberty despite giving it multiple chances. After I was so wonderfully gifted it on Steam 2 black Fridays ago, I forced myself to play through the entire thing and checked out all 3 endings. I can say with absolute certainty that the game is fucking garbage.

/broken record

Anyway, Queso will probably like Bioshock fine as most people do. Just saying it isn't a slam dunk.

I had a few issues with the original, but according to various sources, everything I had issues with was fixed in Infinite. I'm so excited to play it.
