Interesting Dreamcast Tid-Bits And Stories

In '99 it was a Dreamcast, an imported Japanese copy of Dance Dance Revolution: 2nd Mix, and two Japanese dance pads.

About 10 years ago my fixation with DDR 3rd-5th had me seek out a copy of the Japanese 2nd Mix ($60 on eBay), and I got what I thought was a DC dance pad from another seller -- turns out it was a cheap Chinese knock off with some of the worst engrish for an instruction card ever! (under spoiler tag, I like the last one)

(lesson learned, look for official DDR Japanese pads)

Haha I had that exact same problem when I first played, because I was playing a rip and had no instructions

Yes, you have to hold 'A' whilst talking. Be prepared for a lot of frustration though when Seaman won't understand what you're saying.

Seaman: "What day were you born on?"
Player: "Tuesday"
Seaman: "Did you say Friday?"
Player: "No, TUESDAY"
Seaman: "So you were born on a Friday?"

Back in the days I told Seaman I sold weed. He understood I was a prostitute...

Who knows, that pad was so smooth and shiny, not like a *regular* soft pad should be, I think they were before it came to America

Bought a DC about a week after launch in '99. I mowed many lawns for that thing! I missed the launch bc I forgot to calculate in saving for tax

I was planning on playing the demo disc until I had money for games, but my dad drove me (I wasn't 16 quite yet) and he got caught up in the moment when he saw the games running on the kiosk booth. He bought Sonic Adventure & NFL2K for me. Great memory! A few months later I picked up a load for Christmas including Blue Stinger. I was still digging through DC bargain bins while everyone else had moved onto the PS2. Awesome system and great memories with it! Many, many hours on it. Still playing it regularly 14 years later!

2005 was one of the worst years of my life.
After moving in with my Dad, I was forced to change schools. For me, that was extremely difficult as I'm EXTREMELY anti-social. It took me years to finally make friends, and I really only had two (I don't count friends of friends).

Shortly afterwards, my old house burned down. My grandmother called with the terrible news. All of my childhood toys, a few gaming systems that I had left, and my Godzilla collection went up in flames. She said she managed to grab one thing when running out of the house. We went over to check out the carnage that weekend, and she handed me my Dreamcast. (The only reason I had left it was because it stopped reading discs)

Upon hooking it up at my dad's house, it seemed to have started working again. That summer, I got a load of games from a kid that didn't play Dreamcast anymore. My brothers and I spent all summer playing them. Of course, that was ended by Hurricane Katrina. Everything else I had, other than what I had brought with me was destroyed. All that was left was my Game Boy, all my Pokemon games, and my comic books.

I tried save as much as I could, but the house was completely destroyed along with just about everything inside. I grabbed my beloved Dreamcast, and a completely destroyed Saturn that I never got the chance to play. Years later, some family came to visit for Easter and brought the system to me here in Houston.

^ glad you've got a DC again! In 2005 Hurricane Rita (right after Katrina) destroyed my childhood NES & games. Bought 95% of it back, but I was crushed!

Thanks! Yeah, natural disasters freaking suck. I've had a hard time collecting ever since. It feels really good getting back into it, but those feelings always tend to crop up. If it can be taken away so easily, is it really worth it? Simple answer: Yes (if it makes you happy)

Natural disasters don't happen that much in Seattle, right? Maybe all the game collectors can live happily there.
