I'm actually a big fan of what I call the classic "computer-consoles". I have the C64, C16, TI-99/4A, and Tandy Color. I'd like to round out my Commodore set with the VIC-20 and Amiga, and then maybe go for the MSX... Maybe I'll have one by 2015.
If you're nabbing an MSX, might as well nab a PC-9801, FM Towns, etc etc.
Don't give me ideas man!

I'm trying to stick mostly to systems that have cartridge games.

And I always seem to find myself in a bind - should I try a new console or just buy more games for the ones I already have?
The MSX2 is cartridge based :P

Same with the Atari 8-bit line. Both computer lines had floppy disks as well, but their primary format (to an extent) were carts. Most computers in each line had multiple cart inputs, too, so you could have an FM Sound cartridge in one slot to enhance the sound, or a save cart, or a cheat cart. Konami put out 2 cheat cartridges on the MSX, for example, and Q-bert seems to work with virtually everything as a cheat cart too. It was almost like lock on technology. You could even combine games for interesting effects.

For example, if you pop Gradius into the first cart slot, and Penguin Adventure (Kojima's first game) into the second, the ship from Gradius is replaced by Pentaro, which served as inspiration for Parodious later on.

All I know about the Sharp x68k is that it's got pretty much perfect CPS-2 ports as it was the platform that Capcom's CPS-2 games were actually developed on.

Indeed, but I bought mine for the special version of Fantasy Zone that contains a level not seen anywhere else - a level based off of Stage 5 from Space Harrier.

My x68k library is severely lacking, mainly because I haven't put in the time to actually go out and buy the games I want. I tend to concentrate on collecting for one system, or one lineup of systems, at a time.

Grab everything by Ultimate Play The Game, Atic Atac and Sabre Wulf specifically (though Sabre Wulf was ported a couple times, the Speccy version is the best).

I was already planning on mining the Ultimate Play the Game library, but I also have my sights set on stuff like the Dizzy series and I hear the port of The New Zealand Story is great, too.

Problem with collecting for a system like the ZX Spectrum last is that a bunch of its better titles I own elsewhere. I've held off on picking up any of the Dizzy games specifically so I can get them on the Spectrum, but there's not a whole lot else that I'm really looking forward to playing personally. That is partially ignorance of the format on my part, though. When I collect for a system, I really dig in and usually spend about a year on various fan sites and forums taking in the culture, reading back issues of classic magazines, watching and reading reviews online, checking out let's plays, etc. It's such a long research process but that's all part of the fun for me. I'm sure there's a lot on the Speccy that is worth picking up that I just don't know about yet. It's one of Europe's most popular formats of all time for a reason.

That, and I have a general love for European gaming. It's pretty vastly overlooked by the rest of the world, but there is some great stuff in europe.

This thread seems to have turned from "Unpopular Opinions" to "SonicTheRetard tells people about the libraries of fairly obscure gaming platforms."

I'm not complaining.

Obscurity implies unpopularity by definition :P

I revel in the obscure, it's my main hobby. Hence why I come to Racketboy. That style of 8-bit and 16-bit games are my favorite types of games (although I do have modern stuff). The library of games like that is expansive beyond the Genesis, SNES, and TG-16 if you look for it.

Not to interrupt the educational aspect of this thread but I can't believe that the unpopular part of my last post was lumping the GB and GBC together rather than calling their library vastly superior to the oft-praised GBA....

/boggle.
Have: Sega Genesis, SNES, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari 800XL, PC, N3DS XL, Wii U, GBA, Xbox One, Switch

Want: Games!!!

I think it comes down to when you gamed with those handhelds. I don't think calling those libraries superior to the GBA is that wild of an opinion. I wouldn't bat an eye if someone preferred the PSX library to that of the PS2, for example. The classic gameboy had an outstanding library of games, especially if you dig 8-bit games, especially if you lump the GBC with it.
