It's unrealistic for a walking metal man to control smoothly
Halo is not Metroid.

I thought master chief had enhanced reflexes due to cybernetic implants? He was supposed to be stronger and faster than a normal human being in spite of the heavy armoring.

To build on what Bungie said, arstechnica released an interesting article:

Though RPS makes a good point about how they are combining consoles together. If you take the numbers per platform, the PC is right there with each console individually.

On top of that, there are some terrible comparisons going on there in that article.
Steam data shows a peak of about 70,000 people playing Team Fortress 2 concurrently on Steam yesterday, but Halo 4 peaked at about 75,000 players (down from an astounding 400,000+ concurrent players at launch)
TF2 was released in October 2007. Halo 4 was released November 2012. So a 5 year 4 month old game had 70K people playing the other day while a 3 month old game has already gone from 400K down to 75K in 3 months? That's one hell of a fucking attrition rate and if it continues Halo 4 will be losing within the next month or so.

Same stupid comparison with CS/CSS and GOW3. Even though there would likely be a smaller number of PC owners at the time, how about comparing the numbers after CSS launch instead? CSS came out in 2004 and GOW3 in 2011 for fuck's sake. I don't see many people playing 13 year old console games online either, certainly not to the numbers that people still play CS.

Also just because people accept playing with an inferior control scheme doesn't mean that it is a good thing, just that it is accepted. It is hard to buy a manual transmission vehicle in the US today, yet you have finer control over your vehicle driving manual as long as you know what you are doing. Automatic just 'gets the job done' in most applications, but with no finesse or fun. Plenty of terrible to ok movies make money too. That doesn't make them good movies.

I played the PC port of Halo and it felt fine. Don't know what you're all talking about. Movement speed and everything felt exactly the same as the average class in TF2 does nowadays. They even have the same sorta floaty jumping.

Hell, both Half-Life games have auto aim. Counter Strike limits you to only two weapons, and also makes people run slower when they're hit by a bullet, making it much easier to get consecutive hits, which is basically just a different kind of auto aim.

Eh, I don't want to start some stupid argument or anything. But there seems to be a lot of uncalled for console hate in this thread. :/

I don't remember the jumping specifically, but turning felt slow, laggy, and with a little momentum after I was no longer directing it to turn. Thus steering like a barge.

I always turn off auto aim. I hate it. At least it is an option when included in PC games. The fact that it is always included because it is needed on consoles is telling.

Consoles and PCs both have strengths. However controlling an FPS with dual sticks is not optimal, has to baby you with help, when console and PC FPS players have played together the dual stick wielders lose out, and Bungie was stupid for making that statement. It is not console hate.

Yeah, console hate was the wrong word to use.

But that quote from Bungie looks a little misunderstood, or perhaps taken out of context. And people seem to be jumping on Halo's case because of it.

Or maybe the guy who said that is just a dumbass. Either way I like the Halo games, and I also like PC FPS's. And I'll keep playing both. They each offer something the other's don't. Yeah.

And that's all that matters.

Some companies just need to take more care when porting things in either direction.

I will continue to play Halo games, and a handful of other console exclusives, but the majority of my FPS gaming will be PC. Id love to play more console shooters, but non remappable controls are a joke. In this day and age I should be able to remap everything in a game, like in Timesplitters Future Perfect - If I want go forward to be mapped to the start button, I should be able to.
