But they already did Young Solo and Fett - Star Wars Christmas Special.

Whatever Disney does, I can guarantee you they're not worried about hardcore Star Wars fans (you know, the ones who worship the original trilogy and hate the prequels just because they exist) because they're going to bash it no matter what. In fact, the entire reason Lucas sold his company, by his own admission, is because he was tired of dealing with them.
I say let Disney do whatever they want with it. Some of it might be awesome, some of it might not be, but at the very least, it's sure to be interesting and at least somewhat entertaining.

Nah, fan retention is pretty big with Disney. They definitely did their homework on the Marvel Universe. They'll cater to the fanboys as much as possible.Retrodude wrote:Whatever Disney does, I can guarantee you they're not worried about hardcore Star Wars fans...

The particular "hardcore fans" Retrodude is referring to are also the ones who have been begging for a proper HD restoration and re-release of the original theatrical cuts of the old trilogy. I remember you saying that you didn't see that happening, as Fox still owns the rights to those.Luke wrote:Nah, fan retention is pretty big with Disney. Agreed, although I think Disney will do a spin off series in a specific style to cater to the younger market, like with the Clone Wars franchise. I also don't think they would have fought to get the people they got to work on these films if it wasn't in fan interest, Kasdan specifically.Luke wrote:

I am perfectly fine with Disney's moves, they just have to step up and prove themselves. They have the cards in their favor. One of the best, if not the best Star Wars movie had almost nothing to do with George Lucas, Empire Strikes Back. He had no writing credit, just the overall credit of "Story By," and that was it.

He said "those who bash the prequels", those are also the hardcore fans no? Disney will certainly throw all sorts of Easter eggs in every new installment to keep these guys happy.AppleQueso wrote:

Retrodue was being pretty specific about what kinds of fans he was referring to I think.Luke wrote:He said "those who bash the prequels", those are also the hardcore fans no? Disney will certainly throw all sorts of Easter eggs in every new installment to keep these guys happy.AppleQueso wrote:

I've no doubt Disney will cater heavily to the fans as a whole, but it'll be hard for them to please the segment of the fanbase that is practically unpleasable. They want one thing, and that one thing happens to be something Disney might not be able to do.

This is from January 2012, but it's not that hard, or very much of a stretch, to see a corrolation between his feelings in that interview and his decision to sell the company a few months later. In fact, if I had to make a guess, I would say that he was probably already in talks with Disney at that point and we just didn't know it yet.

In factSPECULATION, MAYBE the entire reason Lucas sold his company, by his own admission BASED ON SOME PREVIOUS COMMENTS HE MADE A YEAR BEFORE, is because he was tired of dealing with them
