Holy Sh*t! Disney bought Lucasfilm! Star Wars VII in 2015

Post by dsheinem »

I checked my calendar, and it is not April 1st. So...

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireSt ... JA0jGefbbw

Disney is paying $4.05 billion to buy Lucasfilm Ltd., the production company behind "Star Wars," from its chairman and founder, George Lucas. It's also making a seventh movie in the "Star Wars" series.

The Walt Disney Co. announced the agreement to make the purchase in cash and stock Tuesday. Disney added that "Star Wars Episode 7" is scheduled for release in 2015.

The deal brings Lucasfilm under the Disney banner with other brands including Pixar, Marvel, ESPN and ABC.

Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will become its president and report to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Lucas will be creative consultant on new "Star Wars" films.

Lucas said in a statement, "It's now time for me to pass 'Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers."

I am a bit disturbed by how much Disney now owns - Marvel, Lucasfilm, ESPN, ABC, Henson studios, etc., etc., etc. It's hard for me to look at this with anything but trepidation...

No, no, the good news is that to go along the release of Star Wars VII they will improve the originals again. With their penises.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, but maybe it's better that the reigns won't be in Lucas' hands. Considering how bad the last Indiana Jones movie was.

Does that include LucasArts? I hope that some one else gets the publishing rights to LucasArts games. Atleast TellTale games got the rights to Monkey Island and Sam and Max.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)

A coworker just brought up a good point. What does this mean about the future of StarWars Fan films? Lucas was open about it, and even hosted the film festival a couple times, Disney likes to sue people...

Ohh Ohh does that mean that Leia is a Disney Princess now?

I wonder if this means we might see a re-release of the non-Special Edition Original Trilogy. I know it's a long shot, since Lucas says they don't exist, but there has to be a print left somewhere.
