The point isn't to benefit the customer, its to make money!!

Welp, looks like Steambox and Nintendo for me.

I can't even think of a PR-spin type of "benefit"

The benefit is that now you will experience a $400 cost avoidance of buying the next Xbox this year. With the money you save you can buy 100 Sega Genesis games.

How will this affect games with low print-runs?

Will gougers hoard multiple new copies and then flip them on fleabay once the game goes OOP? I realize that they already do this now, but in a world without used games the mark-ups will be absolutely insane.

Simple. Those games will end up having a 100 percent piracy rate. Actually, in a world without used games, I'd say that most games would have a high piracy rate. It might take pirates a good while to crack the new console, but sooner or later, they'll find a way. They always do. That's why I always laugh at people's attempts to try and stop them. They're wasting their time.

This sounds honestly horrible. No used games is bad enough for many reasons, but an always online console? Wtf Microsoft?

If both of those are true, or even just the always online part, then I can guarantee you I won't be buying the Nextbox. I have a better than average internet connection, and even I can't always have guarantee'd internet access. It cuts out randomly sometimes, especially during bad weather. There's no way in hell I'm putting up with a console if I have the risk of losing all my progress in a game like the next Elder Scrolls or whatever just because my internet hiccups for a couple seconds.

And I think someone mentioned Steam being always online, but just for the record that's not actually true. It has an offline mode so you can play almost any game whether you've got an internet connection or not. The only game I know of to date that requires you to have an internet connection to launch it is TF2.

Well, looks like I won't be buying an Xbox 3. It'll bankrupt GameStop. I'll be buying the Wii U next year I believe
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)

Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping! :)

Suffice to say I think this isn't going to be confirmed until the console actually releases. Microsoft hasn't bothered dis-confirming it though, which is worrying.

Honestly, I'd probably prefer it if the console was strictly DD. At least then the no used thing would be expected.

If the greedy bastards would just bring down the prices of new games to an honest, respectable level like $19.99, then piracy and used games would be far less of an issue! More game companies would sell games and continue to stay in business while the consumers get to enjoy their systems without "being carded" and treated like a potential thief/hacker just because they want to play a damn video game!

Also, what happens to the games that people beat and no longer want - are they supposed to just throw them away? We paid $60+ for it, beat it after a few days, now it's completely worthless? Now we just send it to the landfill and go buy another?? Not everyone collects games ya know

Lemme tell ya somethin, if they start that shit then that means all game developers that are making 'just average' or 'sub-par' games will indefinetly go under because GAMERS WILL BECOME A LOT MORE SELECTIVE ABOUT THE GAMES THAT THEY DO BUY AND PLAY ONLINE WHEN THEY ARE FORCED TO PAY FULL RETAIL PRICE EVERY TIME! There will still be game sales and price cuts I'm sure, but by that time the game developer and/or publisher could already be treading water or having its doors close.

*Regarding mandatory online connection* Seriously, what's next... you can't start your car until you check in with Chevrolet's GPS tracking system first?
