Gigabyte needs to learn that heatsinks aren't meant to look cool and are supposed to, you know, actually keep things cool. Apparently it's a major problem for high end systems on most of their 9xx series boards (I have a 970A-D3)
PC benchmarking with the awesome Catzilla!

Well, I can't catch a break. Now my Northbridge is overheating. Replaced the thermal compound and turned up the fans.

All this because I thought it might be nice to not have a bottleneck in my system.

My guess is that it's very clockspeed based. I got around 14k on the Kitty settings, but all at stock clocks.Hazerd wrote:17k, thats crazy.

Don't buy a Gigabyte 9XX series motherboard when you upgrade. They kill pandas and melt themselves.ATARI800XLfan wrote:you guys have nice setups, which sadly shows me more and more that I really need to replace my old dual core, hoping to replace it with a AMD FX-6300, too bad I will also need a new motherboard though.

I've had issues with both Gigabyte and ASUS boards - but both times it was a problem with the chipset being used (VIA and nVidia respectively). Makes my AMD CPU chipset experience hit or miss, where Intel on Intel has been rock solid every time.
Though, frankly, use enough of any brand and you'll get a DOA part or something.

Just swapped out my case and went to a stock cooler on the CPU. NB temp appears to be much more stable.
