Any Film makers here?
Re: Any Film makers here?
I'm not a filmmaker by profession or as a hobby, but I'd love to. I don't intend on going to film school, and I don't honestly see a reason why, other than to network and get some access to equipment.

Just stay away from Full Sail. Unless you want to be Broke, jobless and unable to transfer your credits to a real school.REPO Man wrote:I'm not a filmmaker by profession or as a hobby, but I'd love to. I knew film school was a crock but if what you say is true, film school's really just a scam.
And I once considered Full Sail back when my interests were in the film of video game development.

Film School is about connections and hands on time. You can get that elsewhere, but if you go to one it is alot easier to get. Understanding film making is sometimes more important than skill in making a movie (especially when you are a getting started). Because if you get on a shoot as a PA and dont know what to do, you wont be back the next day. Or if you are on a shoot as a PA and mouth off or say something out of turn, the same will happen. Film School will teach you atleast one critical function of working in the film industry, they should teach you how to play politics.
Re: Any Film makers here?
I used to have a hobby about editing films/video . I then realized that it takes so much effort/money and hardly any one will watch your creation in the middle of the highly competitive media market and lets not forget pirating which will eat into your revenue .
I am guessing that you can always find a job as a video editor/director between the thousands of tv channels and commercials done today, but to make an actually FILM is pretty hard . I always think of original movies that were made like in Japan (Ringo) or Austria (Funny Games) and then it is over-shadowed by an American remake . This just shows you its not about talent or art, its about your marketing budget.
Of course, if you do it for fun on the side ... then the points above does not apply

Nah, I meant producing with Lil'John loot. A very close friend of mine went to Full Sail and it was nothing short of a blessing for him.TheRev wrote: If by Serious loot you mean tipped by Jay-Z's secretary for bringing them coffee every day yes.
Not saying it's the right school for everyone, but for my friend, his degree helped make him a lot of money.
