One of the games I need yet is the original House of the Dead. Just a quick glance at ebay and I'm looking at $100-$150! Tho I'm sure its an awesome game, that is just plain ridiculous.

I'm hoping that much like the housing bubble, the Saturn game pricing bubble burst and we can all go on with playing good reasonably priced games  .
holy shit has HOTD really risen that much? ugh. i would just get the import, it's close to like $10. definitely not a language barrier with that title.

i understand the desire to have a full NTSC-U set, though...
Yeah I'm reaaaal weird when it comes to collecting games. Gotta be in the original case in at least good condition and same goes for the instruction manual. That's just how I roll.

Here's a link to an ebay auction for a HOTD game case and instuction manual. No game of course. Only 50 dollars! What a steal

what's weird about that? I'm the same way. And if it's a console I seriously collect for (DC, Sat, SCD...) then I want the US release. I only pick up imports that weren't released in the US. Yes, of course there are games like HOTD that are ridiculously priced. But the way I figure it is that when I finally score a good deal on a copy it'll be all the more rewarding that it's a complete US copy.

What do you mean it has nothing to do with Die Hard? You don't remember the part where John McClane beats the shit out of robots?
That must have been cut from the TV version.

Good to know I'm not weird by myself anymore. Most of my friends would buy a good game if it was just the game with no case where as I would pass. Just a pet peeve. Pretty sure I would go insane if I collected for any of the earlier nintendo consoles. Good luck getting a game annnnddd the cardboard box it came in

Hopefully my Racketboy Modchip comes in today, and I will finally get to play some good Saturn games. I have only played a couple of the better games on Saturn (Nights, Tempest 2000) despite having it for 2 years now, and I finally decided the small investment in a modchip would allow me to actually get to play the best games. I am going to take it slow though, not burn every game under the sun and not get to take my time and enjoy them. I am undecided on what to play first, but seeing lists in this thread helped me a little.

Wow, thanks for the feedback guys, appreciated!

A lot of my collecting comes from nostalgia- playing the games I never got the opportunity to play when I was a kid, due to the lack of disposable income. So Guardian Heroes is pretty high on that list. I see the Japanese version is cheaper than the US version, so I'm most likely going to order the Action Replay cart to enable imports.

The prices do seem to have sky-rocketed, but I'm happy to bide my time and keep an eye out for local bargains. It's getting tougher, since the internet means almost everyone knows how much everything is worth now :(

i mean, i don't think it's weird either. when i was actively collecting saturn games, i decided to just go straight for the imports. i resolved that i'd just get every game i'd want to play in NTSC-J format, then burn the US version and play that if i wanted the translation (like for RPGs and such). i couldn't believe the prices people wanted for complete NTSC-U games, even the crappy ones. and this was like 3-4 years ago.

if anyone is interested, there are a LOT of CIB saturn and sega cd games at my store. i can get a list together and i'll happily ship some to you guys if the deal ends up being a good one. just pm me if you want me to check it out.

I say, grab a U.S. copy of Dragon Force. that game is worth the money and will last you a lifetime of entertainment (got it when it came out and still play it today! Love it)

In the import realm, grab saturn bomberman. It is a MUST! The japanese version is incredibly cheap in comparison to the U.S. version and the menus are completely navigable and the game is a blast in both single player and multi-player.

Other great games I recommend, if you are a fighting game fan, grab the street fighter alpha series, they are seriously the best ports you can find and it is definitely my favorite of the 2D Street Fighters.

A very fun, cheap game is Dark Savior. from the guys that made LandStalker for the Genesis and LadyStalker for the SNES, the game is of similar style but has a branching storyline system (based on how you do at the very beginning of the game) that changes the story completely all the way through with no repetition. There are a ton of storyline scenarios and the game has a lot of bang for your buck.

I also suggest grabbing the Shining Force III series. Thanks to fan translation you can now experience the other episodes in the series and get the full picture. I highly recommend playing through Shining the Holy Ark first though, as there is an important connection between them.

those are my big suggestions...I know some games a bit more expensive, but I really feel the value is there in terms of entertainment.

If I can find Dragon Force or Shining Force III for under $140, I might use some tax rebate money to spoil myself...

There's a copy of Dark Savior locally for $30. I didn't know enough about it, but now I know it has Climax involved, I might take another look. Landstalker is still in my top ten of all time.

Well, currently I have Virtua Fighter 2 and Space Hulk. Mildly regret the latter choice, but to be fair I haven't done much on it- I owe it more time. I have an Action Replay 4-in-1 on it's way to me from Amazon, so hopefully that offers up more choices.

Thanks again everyone, much food for thought.

question about the battery save guys, my Saturn had a new battery in it when I got it like 2 years ago, and got very sporadic play in those 2 years, like probably not even a whole 2 hours (sad i know) Now that I have my mod chip installed and I can play the plethora of games, I want to find out about the battery. If I swap it out, will it instantly erase the saves? It currently is not dead, and has saves from when I played it last. if it does erase the saves, is it ok to swap the battery when the saturn is on, like in the cd player screen or something? I ask, because I am planning on getting into some games tonight and tomorrow, and want to know if I should swap the battery before I even start, or is it safe to play and swap later?
