Everything I've read states that the 8 gyms, elite 4 pattern will continue.

I do like the legendary deer thing. The bird...eh... there have been too many legendary birds. The deer feels like a fresh design.

Really? Have you played Black & White? The Legendary trio in that includes 2 deers and one thing that kinda looks like a bull. The X legendary particularly reminds me of Cobalion.

Personally, I like the look of the Y bird more.

No, I've only played Blue, Yellow, Sapphire, and HeartGold.

I may not be the best person to talk about what ideas feel "fresh" or not. lol

Personally I love the designs and also Nintendo didn't run out of names this is just the next big leap for the Pokemon series I read that in an interview with the creator.

'Cause people are never ever biased about their creations.

Mmm, difficult to say. The games are mechanically better but they seem less special to me. Let's me explain briefly.

The original games were very personal ones. Six years in the making by a new designer. Staff from the makers of Pulseman and Earthbound. A world based around the childhood of a single man and with a focus on the mundane.

But also an unhealthy metagame dominated by Psychics and Tauros breaking everyone's back in RBY.

The new games feel much more corporate. The mundante topics dissapeared to be replaced by megalomaniac masterminds, the Earthbound and Pulseman influences are gone, or recycled and Tajiri isn't leaving his mark anymore, probably he isn't even really working.

But the competitive side is great. With hundreds of monsters, moves and statistics spreads the game is really interesting to play, like a simpler, more psychological card game.

So two steps foward, one step back in a sense. I'm biased because I love seeing the designer's hand.

Agreed. One of the best uses of the medium, dare I say. The game never tells you to fight him, he's just there and you know, deep inside that you have to and that it will be the final battle, the last step. That's incredibly awesome.

It's a joke.

Epic moment indeed. I just loved the idea of having him wait where you caught Mewtwo.

I don't mind that as long as the in between stuff is more interesting. I remember Pokemon RBY and SGC had many memorable moments, like the SS Anne, Mount Moon, Ghost Tower, water caves, bell sprout tower ect.

The other games not so much. I think they need to work harder on making your route to Pokemon Champion more memorable and special. Fighting team rocket twice was an amazing experience. Fighting their knock offs, not so much.
