sigh....here we go.
I have not played Sonic 4.2 or colors that is true. I have also not played NSMB 2 (not Wii 2 mate) and Wii U. I have played the rest. I have also played Sonic Rush, Rush Adventure and Advance 3.
While maybe one of those games I have missed might have been amazing, the rest were just bland. Sonic was never about speed, it was about tight platforming and it used speed to reward you and help you loosen up after a tight, stressful platforming section.
Mario used to be one of the most inventive series out there (SMB3, SML2 and Yoshi's Island still manage to amaze me, even though I have played them so many times), and the new super mario bros series is bland as hell. It can't even surpass SMW, a game which came out in 1991.
At least we seem to agree on the fact that DKC:R can't compare with the old DKC games
look guys, I am super picky with my platform games. Just don't try to change my mind about this. Believe me, I throw myself on every single platform game I can find, but very few of them manage to hold my interest. It's much easier to please me when it comes to other genres, but not this one.
Thankfully the indie scene has given me many interesting takes on the platforming genre, cause the old legendary developers have forgotten how to make amazing 2D platforming games (thank god for Mario Galaxy though

)

SoA 2? Hell yes. FF6-2. Really? you want to see square ruin another beloved world? I'd rather see a 3DS remake

.
Well....I guess a prequel about the war of the magi could be interesting. But I really don't trust square anymore to make it.
