New computer now what? help!

I got a PS3 controller working with motionjoy. Only thing annoying me though is that everything works fine except the up and down direction on the left stick. I hit up and instead of Batman working forward he turns around and walks toward the screen. Left and right movement works right though, and everything is fine on the right analog stick

Little update for me.. I bought the PC I linked and the video card does not have a VGA port for my older monitor.. I obviously would need to take the card out if I want to use the VGA monitor directly from the motherboard.. Was planning on getting an LED monitor anyways, but it sucks that I'm either forced to buy a VGA to DVI coord, find a long enough HDMI coord to plug in my TV, or take the Video Card out.. I don't get why the newer GPUs don't just have the goddamn port..

Maybe the onboard automatically disables when you have another card in there, but there should probably be an option in BIOS to let it stay active. However if the DVI port on your new video card supports VGA you'd just need a cheap adapter to give you a VGA connector.

There's both only so much space to put ports on the back of a card, and typically a limit on how many ports the GPU itself supports. Sometimes other restrictions - 3rd+ monitor on a single card usually requires Displayport for example.

DVI-I is readily converted to VGA with a passive adapter. Going the other way is not nearly as simple. Same for Displayport. By omitting the VGA port, they can cater to those customers who want to use multiple digital connections, and still allow for easy conversion for those wanting VGA.

Usually, an adapter is included. Maybe not with the particular machine you bought, with most I've seen.

VGA is very rarely used in the vast majority of cases these days. It's easier to just put a couple of DVI ports on (if you're lucky) a HDMI and a DisplayPort since these are all digital and don't require the use of an additional DAC (digital analogue converter) to function. This will cover 99% of monitor setups. Those that want VGA can just get a converter.

VGA converters are a couple of pounds from pretty much anywhere that sells computer hardware (not PC World, those guys are shysters, nobody should buy from them, EVER).

Engineering an extra VGA port into a video card will cost way more than just including a passive DVI-VGA converter in the box.

I don't understand why these people complain about this shit. "I've just spent £500 on a PC and because I'm in an extreme minority case [company x] should have catered specifically to me!" It's a bit ridiculous. It's like buying a fancy pair of headphones built specifically for use on a smartphone and then complaining because the plug won't fit into your hifi at home and you have to spend 50p on 1/4" jack converter...


Also, I'd be VERY surprised if your BIOS won't allow you to at least disable your new graphics card and revert to the onboard graphics. Most modern systems can just use both and allow you to switch in software...

I cannot access the BIOS if I don't have a monitor that can output it yet.. And besides I'm getting an LED monitor very soon anyways.. No need to start shit on your first point of the quoted section.. It seems as though you are quite combative with many of your responses.. I just think it would be less of a hassle if it did have a VGA port in the card.. I understand the monitor I have atm is old and I'm completely in the minority with my thoughts here..

Well the computer runs fine for me.. I guess I will stick with Windows 8 sadly and try my best to configure it as close to a windows 7 UI as much as I can.. Certain options I actually like, such as the Gmail app etc.. But it will still take while getting used to it..
