greatest Thanksgiving movie ever? I believe so. You laugh hysterically for 98% and then feel like crying like a baby at the end. John Hughes ruled.
LISTEN DUDES/DUDETTES/DUDERS! (or scroll down to last sentence...that's called the bait and switch)
Duders, I watched four John Candy movies over the past three days. Every one of them was spectacular, just as I remembered. However, as an adult I view his acting differently. Chris Farley is often compared to John Candy, which I think is completely unfair. Besides the last shitty movie Farley made with chubby chandler, Chris always seemed happy on screen.
Hear me out.
There is something in Candy's eyes in almost every shot that pulls at my ticker strings. Even when he is the jolliest miscreant, I see pain. Even when he smiles and makes all of us smile with him, it's as if there is something eating away at him (that is not a fat joke). He genuinely looks emotionally battered even when telling jokes. And when he does get serious, he leaves me a wreck. Candy has that "I have everything, yet I have nothing" look down pat, and I don't think it is a coincidence.
God bless him.
On to happier thoughts.
Okay. I admit I am opening a shallow grave, but I have to dig up more dirt on DARK KNIGHT RISES. Yup. I poo poo (or fart as some say) on many a movie, but we are all in our right to have an opinion.
SO!
I recently watched one of the newer (and by 'newer' I mean in the past twenty years) Zorro movies which was the better of the two newer Zorro movies. Most of my audible thoughts were: "Didjaseethat? Huh? Nah. Wait. Yougotta be..."
I was on holiday and I don't know which Zorro this was (definitely not the Gay blade, which is my favorite) but RISES is basically the same movie with a bigger budget and dumber writers. The story is almost verbatim, as are the characters, and Zorro does a much better job.
I'll find out which Zorro it is, but I promise if your watch this Zorro and Rises back to back you'll think something close to "at least Zorro isn't an idiot all the time". There's a hero, there is a "rise" there is a cave to recover from, there are challenges, there is someone talking over a city, there is someone behind the person trying to take over the city. there is a love interest who is a rival......same stuff, almost to a T.
