A Cary Grant film I've never seen! This movie is about a couple that love children and a the wife just can't help her self when it comes to strays. They have 3 children of their own and then they start having foster children, as the wife can't say no to the local orphanage.

Lots of great dialogue, delivered expertly by Grant and just some fun, goofy scenes. Tons of heart in this one, I loved it!

greatest Thanksgiving movie ever? I believe so. You laugh hysterically for 98% and then feel like crying like a baby at the end. John Hughes ruled.

LISTEN DUDES/DUDETTES/DUDERS! (or scroll down to last sentence...that's called the bait and switch)

Duders, I watched four John Candy movies over the past three days. Every one of them was spectacular, just as I remembered. However, as an adult I view his acting differently. Chris Farley is often compared to John Candy, which I think is completely unfair. Besides the last shitty movie Farley made with chubby chandler, Chris always seemed happy on screen.

Hear me out.

There is something in Candy's eyes in almost every shot that pulls at my ticker strings. Even when he is the jolliest miscreant, I see pain. Even when he smiles and makes all of us smile with him, it's as if there is something eating away at him (that is not a fat joke). He genuinely looks emotionally battered even when telling jokes. And when he does get serious, he leaves me a wreck. Candy has that "I have everything, yet I have nothing" look down pat, and I don't think it is a coincidence.

God bless him.

On to happier thoughts.

Okay. I admit I am opening a shallow grave, but I have to dig up more dirt on DARK KNIGHT RISES. Yup. I poo poo (or fart as some say) on many a movie, but we are all in our right to have an opinion.

SO!

I recently watched one of the newer (and by 'newer' I mean in the past twenty years) Zorro movies which was the better of the two newer Zorro movies. Most of my audible thoughts were: "Didjaseethat? Huh? Nah. Wait. Yougotta be..."

I was on holiday and I don't know which Zorro this was (definitely not the Gay blade, which is my favorite) but RISES is basically the same movie with a bigger budget and dumber writers. The story is almost verbatim, as are the characters, and Zorro does a much better job.

I'll find out which Zorro it is, but I promise if your watch this Zorro and Rises back to back you'll think something close to "at least Zorro isn't an idiot all the time". There's a hero, there is a "rise" there is a cave to recover from, there are challenges, there is someone talking over a city, there is someone behind the person trying to take over the city. there is a love interest who is a rival......same stuff, almost to a T.

Ugh I can't take any more talk about TDKR :|

Okay so it's my first time (suffering through the 2600 game had made me wary about watching ET) and there's nothing to be said that's not been said countless times before (from Drew's schnoz to the unergonomic ship design  ) Still an absolute cinema classic, but like any blockbuster it left a trail of victims in its wake, especially in its debut year 1982.

I agree with this 100% and have made similar observations (to myself) in the past. Planes is a great example of this. Even while smiling -- and especially if it's not your first time watching the movie -- you see some serious pain in his eyes. He was an amazing actor.

i've probably seen most of candy's movies a dozen times and never noticed any pain. i'll have to look closer next time i see one of his flicks. just running through his dramatic scenes through my head i just chalk up a "pain" look as just good acting in a serious scene. and as much as i loved farley (hell, i watch beverly hills ninja whenever it's on), he has nothing on candy. but then again he only had a few typecast movies and didn't have the chance to try anything different.

Anyone else watch every episode of that show back when it was on and when Saturday mornings meant something?

In all seriousness, Candy's strength - much like Martin's - was in playing comedic characters with emotional depth and complexity. So yeah, I agree that there's almost always some sadness there - it was part of what made him great.

Hitchcockian entertainment at its finest. There's something to the slower pacing of older films that is sorely missing from today's ADHD Hollywood.

Watched Desperate Living with a few friends last night. What a classic. It was fun to see it with at least 2 people who were experiencing the film for the first time. They had no idea what they were getting themselves into. John Waters' work is timeless.

So JGL will play as Batman in THE JUSTICE LEAGUE and we will more than likely see a Batman cameo in MAN OF STEEL. JGL is one of my favorite current actors, but not having a Bruce Wayne as Batman is going to upset a lot of people.

Well if you're here confirming it I suppose that means it's not just a rumor after all?

Not too sure how I feel about linking Nolan's movies into a broader DC universe. Depends on how the other DC movies from here on out turn out I guess.
