Anyway the phone thing is definitely in the comics and it lasts a few issues if I recall rather than a single episode. Pretty much the same thing except Rick and Carl are wandering house to house getting phone calls and Rick is dragging the phone with him... I think. Been a while since I read the comics, but it's after the prison stuff. I think they're up to issue 9 billion now.
Yeah, I'm a few issues after the phone thing now. Actually, the phone thing becomes linked to another character who is currently on the show. Given how different that character has been portrayed on TV though we probably won't see that connection.

There's a quote from an issue I'm currently in the midst of reading as I type this that made me laugh my ass off. Have to share it

"The thing about smart mother fuckers is that sometimes, they sound like crazy mother fuckers to stupid mother fuckers. I hope you guys aren't a bunch of stupid motherfuckers"

Well, that was probably the most uncomfortable episode of the show so far, and yet it was soooooo tame compared to what happens in the comic. Not that I'm complaining, what little we did see with Maggie and the governor made my skin crawl. The comic went soooo much further with that though, though Maggie wasn't the female in that particular situation. It's interesting how much differently the character stories play out between the show and the comic.

The scene with Glenn and the walker was badass, and totally not from the comic at all.

Michonne was great in this episode. It's actually the first time I can actually say that. Now she's moving more into a role matching the one in the book. I wanted to see more interaction between her and Darryl though, being that he is the resident badass on Rick's crew.

Michonne still has two looks; sour or pissed off. Not much character development as far as she goes, but she doesn't need it.

Great episode that felt more like a half hour than an hour long show. My hat is off to the writers for making this season so well rounded. It's the comic, yet it isn't. But what the show and the comic now have in common is that both keep us on the edge of our seats.
And we don't need to see a penis being nailed to a floorboard do we?

Michonne still needs work. Her showing up to help and then playing the silent badass thing made no real sense. Rest of the ep was amazing though.

And the more I hear of the comic the more it seems like it spends way too much time on shock value. I'm sure the writing is good, but really, the tone of the show is as dark as things really need to get to get the point across.

Michonne seemed more talkative this episode, which is good because she talks more in the comic and shows more of a personality than they've given her so far on the show. That's not to say that her character is vastly different from her TV counterpart, just that she's a bit more relaxed in the book. She's not just mean stares all day in the comic book, which is how she's been portrayed on the show as Luke does such a good job of pointing out. I was happy with what they did with her in this episode because she is being positioned in a way that is more in line with her role in the book. Everything they've done with her prior to this episode didn't follow the book at all.

I think the comic does use a lot of shock value, but it does have good writing too. When I first starting reading the comic I really liked the show a lot more. From around issue 40 onwards though the comic gets really, really good. That being said though, I still like the show because it does experiment with so many things not done in the comic. It's very much an alternate universe take on the comic book storyline, kind of like what DC comics does with their multiple earths featuring different takes on established characters.

You are right though, the comic is much, MUCH darker and bigger on shock moments than the show. To say that the comic is not for the weak of heart is putting it mildly. The scene with the governor and Maggie made me nervous because I don't know if I could have watched if they took it as far as the comic.

There's actually some pretty effed up stuff that happens once they reach the prison in the comic that they haven't showed in the show and the governor is also a much more effed up character in the book. I think Jrecee's previous post shows that it's for the better. One could definitely accuse the comic of being too dark for a television audience
