I can't imagine paying $60 for NintendoLand. It should come with the Basic, too. It's fun, but not worth $60.

Been playing Chase Mario with my girlfriend. It's really fun. Wish I had more WiiMotes so I could invite others to play. Online multiplayer would be a fun feature for this.

Cronozilla you seem a tad bent on defending the Wii U. Yes, I know the PS3 shadows are horrible. I complain about them all the time. Even the Xbox 360 has crappy shadows. Also, why did you put that NSMBU was "almost entirely 3D" in spoiler tags? Here's my comment from a previous post:
Redifer wrote:I was hoping Mario U would look as good as Rayman.
To which you responded:
Chronozilla wrote:It's really difficult to argue that a 3D rendered game needs to look more detailed and vibrant than a handcrafted 2D game ... that's not even remotely fair.
Where exactly did I try to "argue" that it "needs to look more detailed and vibrant"? I said I was hoping it could look as good as Rayman and it's certainly not wrong or unfair of me to hope that. You're the one who's not being accurate. After all, the Wii U is supposed to be more powerful than the likes of the PS3, right? Nintendo won't release the full specs so I guess we'll never know. But apparently they have something to hide. Anyway, I put the Wii U into 720p and you know what? It looks BETTER! That's the cool thing about the PS3 is that it generally outputs the native resolution of the game. The Wii U's upscaling exacerbates the jaggies. It must not be a very good upscaler. The Xbox 360's upscaler doesn't seem to be this bad, either. So are we gonna have to deal with games running in 720p without anti-aliasing for the Wii U's entire lifespan? I was hoping that at least most games would be 1080p native. But I guess it's wrong and unfair for me to hope this.

I have one more Wii U nitpick:
-If I unplug the LAN (ethernet) adapter for any reason, which I often have to do since I take the system into another room to record this stuff, I get this screen which lasts for about a minute:
Image
Why does it take the system a full minute to realize the adapter isn't plugged in? It should immediately pop up with a screen saying "LAN not available, search for Wi-Fi?" YES/NO.

Again... nitpicks.

Instead of posting the same stuff or making a new thread for it I'll just drop a link to my article for my WiiU review if anyone wants to read it.

I agreed with a lot you had to say.

Being a PC gamer, I'm actually (so far) really enjoying the WiiU far more than I thought I would. It's definitely closer to a traditional gaming experience than the original Wii was, but, it's just unique enough to really keep and hold my interest. I'm not too certain about it's future and whether Nintendo can really keep the third parties around. Unfortunately, we wont have much in the way of new games until March. February brings Aliens: Colonial Marines, but that's about all of note till then.
Older. Not wiser.

Indeed, it is all going to be up in the air for a while. Speaking of Aliens...I want that game.

Spoilered so no one has to read any more of this nonsense.

@Redifer:
Redifer wrote:Cronozilla you seem a tad bent on defending the Wii U.
Ah ... not particularly, just misinformation.
Redifer wrote:Also, why did you put that NSMBU was "almost entirely 3D" in spoiler tags?
It was just part of that chunk of text that I put in a spoiler tag to reduce the size of the post unless people felt like reading what I was saying.
Redifer wrote:I was hoping Mario U would look as good as Rayman.

The reason why Rayman looks so fantastic is because it's 2D. And you were explicitly talking about the shadows in Rayman vs the shadows in New Super Mario Bros. U which is a completely obscure comparison considering they're not remotely the same.
Redifer wrote:You're the one who's not being accurate.
How's that?
Redifer wrote:After all, the Wii U is supposed to be more powerful than the likes of the PS3, right? Nintendo won't release the full specs so I guess we'll never know. But apparently they have something to hide.
Well, graphically it is. The chip is at least 2 or 3 generations past what's in the PS3 or 360. Just because it hasn't been utilized to the unrealistic degree you're claiming in the first week of its release doesn't mean it isn't. (Consider that even thought these games are running at a similar resolution ... they're running at double the framerate)
Redifer wrote:Anyway, I put the Wii U into 720p and you know what? It looks BETTER! That's the cool thing about the PS3 is that it generally outputs the native resolution of the game. The Wii U's upscaling exacerbates the jaggies.
All upscaling will exacerbate aliasing artifacts unless there's filtering going on as well, which usually results in a blurry mess of an image. It sounds like you have console blinders on here. TV set's built in upscaling is generally horrid. So, what are you talking about here?

It's like everyone who was complaining that the games that were ported like Mass Effect looked way worse on Wii U ... when side by side comparisons show that ... no, it looks the same. Whether or not it looking the same is reflective of the hardware is a different matter. A lot of this stuff has to do with effort put in. Even if the game was on hardware that was magnitudes more powerful ... it doesn't mean it'll look better. It's at the developers discretion.
Redifer wrote:It must not be a very good upscaler. The Xbox 360's upscaler doesn't seem to be this bad, either. That's a bit of a stretch. First of all ... the games do have anti-aliasing. Mario doesn't have any on the world map ... it has it everywhere else. Nintendo Land also has it in great quantities. And using Sonic All Stars Racing as an example is like a bad joke.

It's also entirely ridiculous to claim these kinds of things about a system that's not even out of its infancy yet. You're saying week 1 ... no 1080p native games on Wii U ever ... that's ridiculous.

The reality is that third party games, in general, are never going to be as technically competent as first party. And Nintendo had different goals in mind when making these games, namely 60fps. For a first round of games... these are very good in terms of technology behind them.

Is this me saying that the Wii U will not be trounced when it comes to graphical fidelity? Of course not. But to downplay what it is doing is erroneous.

Anyway, like I was saying ... you can like or not like whatever you want: I don't care. It's misinformation that bugs me, which is what I was addressing.
It seems like the main issue on Wii wasn't so much that Nintendo couldn't get people to come over at all; it was a technological barrier. The system had an entirely different kind of pipeline and stuff had to be written from the ground up specifically for it, Wii U doesn't have that issue ... even against the consoles that will be coming out (unless they're voxel based or something :P) So, it would be a much cheaper proposition for them. To support it as well.

I imagine Wii U will have better numbers than PC, in terms of support. But I hope Wii U gets better support and more effort. The launch window lineup is really encouraging ... I think what will determine it is the attachment rate going over through March. If it turns out people bought ZombiU and Assassin's Creed III and Scriblenauts almost as much as they bought Mario and Nintendo Land ... then publishers would have some encouraging numbers there.

I'd still say if the new generation of consoles could only do 1080p@60hz gaming ... that's actually a larger leap, graphically, than the generation before. Going from 720p to 1080p is significantly larger than going from 480p to 720p. I also think people have kind of been fooled into this state where they think graphics have REALLY improved, when polygon levels have increased, but not by much. The biggest advent was the shader system, and it covered up a lot of problems. So, 1080p at 60 hz with AA, is actually impressive ... even if people don't think so, from a performance perspective it is. (On the PC side, for perspective: You'd need a mid range GTX600 or equivalent, which is about $300 consumer level to have that kind of performance for most games now. Otherwise you'd have to settle for 30hz ... or worse. Not to mention if they introduce any modern techniques like tessellation.)

Nope. Never mentioned the shadows in Rayman. The only thing I said was that I hoped Super Mario could look as good as Rayman and THAT'S IT. You then tried to rip me a new asshole for comparisons you thought I was making that did not exist. This is the nitpick thread. These are nitpicks. I can have nitpicks with launch games and I know future games will look better.

And all TVs don't have the same quality scaler. Mine apparently has a slightly better scaler than the Wii U. Not sure why you even responded to that.

To be clear, this is what I was responding to:
In Mario, look especially at the shadows on the map screen. Pretty chunky. No go look at the recent 2D Rayman on the PS3. Much more detail.
Nitpicking is fine ... I was responding to the things you were saying that sounded entirely misinformed and incorrect ... which is now the third time I've reiterated that point.

I wanted to comment on what people were talking about the resolution thing with the Wii U. I took mine over to my Grandpas yesterday for Thanksgiving to have all my cousins play. When I hooked it up to my Grandpas TV I didnt get any signal, and realized that his TV didnt support 1080p, so with the magic of the controller, I was able to set the resolution back down to 720p. Me and my Wife immediately noticed a difference in Nintendo Land (the only game we played) It was not nearly as crisp as on my 42 inch 1080p TV (my Grandpas is like a 46). I didnt expect to notice a difference, but there it was in plain sight.

I'm sorry but Cronozilla is right here. NSMBU is a 2D game in a 3D engine. Rayman Legends is a 2D game in a 2D engine. You can't compare the two games it's an apples to oranges comparison.
