Like I said, I only read up to where the series is at (roughly). I haven't seen anything like that at all, worst I've seen is not very explicit zombie gore. The artwork is pretty lazy as well, honestly.
Last book I read was the one where Tyrese's daughter dies. I didn't get to the stuff with the governor, I don't want to spoil anything.

I'm actually glad we haven't seen some of the sick stuff in the comic on the show. It's far easier to stomach some of that stuff on page than it would be to see real people acting it out. For overall gore, brutality and generally effed up stuff, the comic wins out. What we're seeing on the show so far is just a small taste of it. However, there are things about the show that I do like more than the comic. I agree that Rick is a far better character on the show. Michone, however, is just the opposite. Lori sucks either way

From what I've read of the comic so far, I'd say TV show Glen is probably the most accurate character to his comic counterpart

I'm surprised they're bringing the phone element into the story already. Didn't it happen after they left the prison in the comic?

Oh yeah, another thing I found very odd with the comics is the lack of Daryl and Merl. Daryl is a very central character in the series, reading through the story was odd without him. It's hard to imagine how they'd even get as far as they did without having the zombie killing machine that is Daryl around. Merl not so much, but after seeing Merl Mk. II: Cyborg Ninja in the series, I figured that was something yanked from a comic book for sure, but I guess not.

I found the little differences here and there and character omissions from the comic to be strange and pointless in general.

I have friends who've only watched the show and they'll refer to people as "the guy with the hat", and "you know, the kid".

You misunderstood me. I said from the comic, not in. As in Alan, his wife and kids, Tyrese, his daughter and her boyfriend, aren't in the show. I kind of find it racist or something that Tyrese, a pretty major character, isn't in the show, but instead there's a black character named "T-Dog" that may as well not even be there and is one of the most minor characters.

Don't worry.
Tyrese will be here shortly.
