My Razor Lycosa keyboard did not last. Only Razor product I've owned. :?

Also had a tendency to flip out and need to get unplugged for a second to work properly again.

I used to be a big Logitech fan, now the only thing i have from them is X-530 speakers, which i also bought in 2005, other than my mouse and speakers, everything is 2010 or newer.

I've never had to replace a mouse due to it breaking. I used a G5 from 2006 to earlier this year when I felt like swapping it out, but it worked perfectly. Then again, my original Intellimouse Explorer works perfectly too.

I've probably replaced keyboards on an almost yearly basis during that time (even if the keys I wore smooth were kinda odd due to FFXI  ). Had $20 HP and Logitechs, a Saitek, the Razor... just sayin', of all of them, the Lycosa was the most troublesome, and it actually stopped working, as opposed to most.
Personally, I wouldn't buy another Razor based on the ownership experience. Been quite pleased with my WASD Keyboards mechanical though.

Mechanical keyboards are so over-rated in my opinion, when will this craze end, i i doubt the extra 1 MS you get from it over a membrane keyboard matters, not to mention they weigh a ton.

Weight matters with a keyboard?

It's about the better feel. Regardless of whether it's actually faster or not (my typing speed didn't go up any measurable amount) it's a joy to type on versus a rubber-dome keyboard. Considering I spend a very large portion of my day typing, that's important to me.

It's certainly not a craze either. Most people wont spend more than $50 on a keyboard and don't really care that much if their current one works just fine for them. I'm the only person in my PC gaming group of friends that owns one for example.

Have you had the chance to spend some time with a good mechanical keyboard?
Older. Not wiser.

Keyboards with real switches do weigh more because they have a real switch for every key instead of just a rubber membrane and the plastic sheets. But aside from shipping considerations when buying one, to me this is good as it stays put on your desk, much like a heavy joystick is a good thing. I've used cheap light keyboards that would slide all over the desk once the slightest amount of dust got on the rubber feet and it annoyed the hell out of me.

Like anything there is a range. There are bad rubber dome ones that are like a 360 d-pad, good ones like a SNES or Saturn d-pad, and great to excellent microswitch ones like good joysticks.

You guys won't believe how into keyboards I've gotten...

It started when I got into SC2...

Bought a blank "Otaku" Leopold FC200R with Cherry Blue clicky/ tactile switches.

Next was a Filco Majestouch with MX Browns (Tactile with a light touch)

Then an old Cherry G80-1800 keyboard with blues, this got me into older stuff like Model B buckling springs and alps

Then I got an IBM Space Saving Keyboard which is a rarer Model M variant with no numpad (TKL)

Found a really old mini layout keyboard with blue clicky Alps clone "Monterey" switches (This one is my GFs favorite) Better action than Cherrys IMHO

I got a larger keyboard made by Chicony at an Ecycler with the same Montereys

Next a Kinesis Contoured keyboard off craigslist, these are made by a small company in Washington, very cool, check them out if you want an albeit expensive ergo mechanical that will save your wrists

Picked up a IBM Model F which is an older version of the M but with Capacitive buckling spring technology and widely regarded as the best clicky switch.

Next up, got my hands on fabled Korean custom keyboard from On The Desk (otd.kr), an MXMini which is a community designed %60 mini layout and community designed Aikon controller so it is fully programmable.

Typing this all in Colemak layout on my newest aquisition a Das 2 keyboard OEMed by Cherry with blank POM keycaps.

On the way to me from Korea is a KMAC cusom TKL keyboard with CNC Aluminum case designed by the KBDmania community.

Lastly, I gotta plug another custom keyboard we're working on called the Ergo Dox, you can check it out on the forums or on Ergodox.org

whew...

I'm a mod over at Geekhack.org and active on (basically a Euro equivalent) Deskthority.net so come by if you have any interest in mechanical keyboards.

also, any questions, feel free!

It's a lot more about the feel of it to me. After spending time with my mechanical, typing on most membrane keyboards actually feels like it requires effort, whether to imprecise feel or just plain needing to push down on the keys harder.
