Timeless. Perfect. Movie Gold.
Agreed. Bettlejuice is tied with Edward Scissorhands as my favorite Tim Burton film, and the waiting room in that movie is priceless.
If you ever have the chance at seeing in a theater, jump at it. I've always adored BEETLEJUICE, but seeing the visuals on a bib screen really makes the visuals pop. Even more than Burton's BATMAN.

BEETLEJUICE and PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE are probably a toss up of my favorite Burton movies. I like EDWARD, but it's too emotional for me. Hat's off to Burton as that was what he set out to do, but as I'm a guy with one hand the film hits a little too close to home for me. Not the shrub and hair cutting scenes; I'm awful at trimming my own hedges and my sideburns are never even, but there are a few scenes including the one where an old man calls Edward a "cripple" that sting a bit.

That said, Depp is incredible in EDWARD. The waterbed scene will be forever etched into my mind, and a perfect film for Vincent Price to make his last performance. Great film, but it makes me uncomfortable.

I was actually lucky enough to see Tim Burton's Batman in theaters the day it was released. Needless to say, it blew my 9-year-old mind.

Based on your advice, I will definitely stop in for Beetlejuice if I find it playing in a theater.

Silent Hill Revelations

Bleh. Not even close to as good as the first (which I quite liked). I don't get why people have generally had favorable things to say about it here....

Cabin in the Woods

OMG this was awesome. I'm glad I saved this one to close out the month - I can see this easily becoming one of my all time faves if it holds up to repeated viewings!

Well, I barely got through 1/3 of my list. Going on vacation really screwed me up. I think my ambitions were too high for the time I had. Oh wells. Better luck next year.

I haven't been slacking, though. I may not have watched anything on my list, but I did spend last night watching the Friday the 13th marathon on AMC. And tonight TCM is showing all the classic Universal monster movies, so that will be where I'll be spending my time.

It's been another good horror movie month, I think. I really enjoyed it and reading everyone else experiences. I was glad to share it with you guys :D

Even though it is a remake it's still a Tim Burton original, which I like. I'm hoping Timmy does a lot more original work and strays from remakes of classics.
The DVD has a short introduction by Burton where he talks about always wanting to do a version of Frankinweenie that more closely resembled his original sketches. So I'll choose to think about the new Frankinweenie as his more fully realized idea, instead of just a remake.

Watched The Burning (1981) tonight. Friday the 13th ripoff featuring teenage heart throb, Jason Alexander.

Couldn't help but notice a resemblance between Metal Jesus and the Prostitute that gets killed in the beginning of the film. (Sorry, dude.)

I can't believe I was actually able to find a picture of her.
The internet is a sad, wonderful place.

It holds up after multiple viewings. You'll notice something new every time you watch it. Speaking of...

Watched BEETLEJUICE again last night with friends, this time in my home theater. The laughter was deafening at points. Part of the reason this movie will remain timeless is due to the lack of cgi. Some will say I'm nuts, but movies like X-Men First Class will more than likely be laughable in only a few years. CGI can just take you out of an entire movie when not done/added correctly.

But hats off to noise for this thread, and I can say without a doubt this was a great month of movie watching, and I plan on continuing watching horror movies until my list is complete. That, and I bought the FF13th Collection so I have 8 more movies to revisit.

I agree, the old claymation/stop motion effects might look dated, but they also have a certain charm to them.

CG just keeps getting better and better though, and even fairly dated stuff by today's standards like Lord of the Rings still manages to look pretty good, at least when viewed in the context of the rest of the film.

For Halloween, my wife and I watched:

The Innkeepers (2011) - This a very scary, slow burn horror film very similar to director Ti West's "The House of the Devil" (which is one of my very favorite horror films). Ti West is a very talented director who is able to sustain a sense of dread to the point that it is nearly unbearable. Anyone who has seen a horror movie before knows exactly what is going to happen to the protagonist, but the fact that she is such a likable, well-developed character makes watching the film an agonizing experience. (The well-developed, likable protagonist was likely the key to the suspense in "The House of the Devil" as well.) That said, the "pay off" in this film was not nearly as satisfying as "The House of the Devil"; so, despite the fact that it is very well made, I do not regard it as highly. It suffers only by comparison to one of my very favorite horror films, however, and it is still better than most. Accordingly, I highly recommended it for anyone seeking a scary, suspenseful, well-made haunted house movie.

...

A busy work schedule combined with the availability of new episodes of both Parks & Rec and Agatha Christie's Poirot on Netflix kept us from watching as many horror movies as I would have preffered, but we still managed to get in some good movies. My personal ranking:

1. The Last Exorcism
2. The Innkeepers
3. The Resurrected
4. The Legend of Hell House
5. Heavenly Creatures
6. The Mummy
7. The Abominable Dr. Phibes
8. The Invisible Man
9. The Corpse Vanishes (MST3K)
10. The Wolf Man
11. Don't Look Now
12. Insidious

Again, this is a great thread, and I am looking forward to next October!

With BEETLEJUICE the stop motion doesn't even feel dated because "it fits". It is in the same tone and pace of the movie. Same with LOTR; I hate to use this word, but the movie planned on being "epic", and almost every shot succeeded. It's when you think, "that's not right" that takes you out of a movie.
