I don't mean that I want to buy a bunch of PAL games and sell off my current ones. But I do have some concerns: are older PAL CRT TVs compatible with older NTSC consoles? A step down converter would easily solve my power problem, but not necessarily the AV output, right? Or can I just plug my SFC into a PAL Trinitron?elmagicochrisg wrote:Fuck PAL...

Dont think so. You need to get your oldest consoles AV modded so you can use them on a modern TV. Second generation consoles, 2nd model NES, 2nd model SMS and PC-engine/Turbografx-16 with out any on of the accessories.o.pwuaioc wrote: But I do have some concerns: are older PAL CRT TVs compatible with older NTSC consoles? Yeah just sell off things like excess AV cables. Obviously for instance there are SCART cables and 220v power adapters suitable for SFC.o.pwuaioc wrote:I don't mean that I want to buy a bunch of PAL games and sell off my current ones. Note that the only console that you can't mod is the NES. And fuck the fucking shit that is the European NES, it can burn in a fire for all I care.

If nothing else, you could find a multi-system TV. My family had one in the late 80s when I lived in Europe. I couldn't speak to the difficulty of finding one now on the general market, but they weren't that difficult to find via NEX or AAFES. Same with multi-system VCRs back then.o.pwuaioc wrote: I don't mean that I want to buy a bunch of PAL games and sell off my current ones. HD standards are largely international, so I'd imagine it's less of an issue for modern consoles.
Could potentially just run an NTSC set on a transformer as well, unless you'd elect not to ship them due to size/weight.

Finding a 60Hz CRT TV is a piece of cake. Don't worry about that...o.pwuaioc wrote:I don't mean that I want to buy a bunch of PAL games and sell off my current ones. Although finding a 60Hz 4:3 CRT could prove a little more difficult...

Re: Switching from NTSC to PAL
Please. PLEASE! Don't switch to PAL consoles. You're basically crippling your gaming hardware. Practically the majority of retro games are developed with 60hz in mind.
I live in a PAL country and I hate 50hz (PAL) with a passion. I'm currently converting/replacing my PAL consoles with NTSC ones.
Just take a look at this and CRINGE!
EDIT:
All "95/00's and later produced (CRT) TV sets can handle NTSC signals. So don't worry about that. Get a stepdown converter (like the guys before me said) and you're ready to go. It'll be exactly as in the US.
