Ever buy a console for just ONE (or two) games?

Anything that is gaming related that doesn't fit well anywhere else

Most of my console acquisitions are spurred by one particular game. Of course, I get more games as I learn about/get my hands on them. I'm changing that for the 3DS by getting the games that interest me before I get the console.

I got my PlayStation 3 so I can play Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. I got it when I did (mid-2007) since the 20/60GB Emotion Engine Model was going to be discontinued. Big mistake since a year later I bought a modded PS2. That and the PS2 games look like shit on my TV.

Raiden IV/Raiden Fighters Aces were the reasons I bought an Xbox 360.

The first party Nintendo games are always the main reason I buy any Nintendo console.

For years I wanted a Neo Geo Pocket just for Sonic Pocket Adventure so when I went on eBay, I went straight to a Buy It Now listing of the console with Sonic.

It was awesome

I like to think that for most kids growing up in the 90s, Pokemon was the essential game to have for Game Boy. The craze back then was truly something else.

Hell yeah! All other late-90s fads grew limp in the awesome might of Pokemon. Every kid I knew dumped their Furbys and Beanie Babies for Pokemon.

Pokemon was a huge fad for a while, but it kinda seemed to me like the games took a backseat to the show and trading card game.

Come to think of it, that's basically the only game I have on my NGPC. That's not the reason I bought the unit. I just haven't bothered to buy any other games for it yet.

Back when I was about 10, our school used to have a 'toy day' on the last day of school where you didn't need to come in uniform and you could bring toys and games with you to play all day. 90% of our class bought in a Game Boy and Pokémon Red, Blue or Yellow. One guy even bought in a Japanese import of Pokémon Pinball which wasn't out yet.

The cards were certainly omnipresent, but I figure that's just because they were easier to smuggle into the playground at school.

Maybe it was just here I guess. I never once got to play Pokemon with someone else (to do trades, battles, etc) until after Crystal had been out a good while.

There's also the fact that you dont need to own a handheld game console for the TV show and cards (practically every one owns a TV, the same cant be said about Gameboys).

Every one owned Pokémon cards. No one knew the rules or played with them.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I knew how to play them, and tried to get people to play me. I never lost a match though, because the few people I convinced to play were learning as they went and weren't very good.

The TCG game for GBC was a godsend, although I wish it had better AI and more opponents.

That was certainly true of my group. I can't remember a single match being played, and I couldn't undertstand what all that stuff below the picture of the Pokemon was supposed to mean. Then again, I was 5/6.

My brother and I used to play it together but I think we only somewhat knew the rules and kinda made up the rest. haha I remember when a huge group of kids used to meet up at a local book store just to play Pokemon every weekend. I was never that into it. haha
