What concerts have you attended?
Re: What concerts have you attended?
Mastodon is pretty cool but I always just think that they are a hardcore Neurosis rip-off every time I hear them. I have there their albums though.
Re: What concerts have you attended?
i honestly prefer older converge (shallow breathing/i abstain is amazing) to their newer stuff, but i stand by my take the jane doe is their best record. they were better with 2 guitarists. if you like early converge i would recommend listening to early cave in, check out the record "until your heart stops."Koopin_Krackerz wrote:Very cool. Mastodon just blows my mind every time, especially their drummer. Now that they have some cash they have a really cool big screen with trippy videos going on behind them.aaron wrote:
awesome. i saw mastodon and high on fire play a venue around the size of a garage, there were maybe 50 people there. it was excellent. this was right after remission came out.
i've also played with converge twice, seen them dozens of times. awesome band.
Converge surprises me every time. The way they open with "Plagues" and their lead singer goes ape shit. Their singer really knows how to get a crowd going, even if the venue has never heard a single song by them.
i'm going to see mastodon/btbam/baroness/valient thorr at the end of april. stoked.

Yeah, I actually didn't start listening to any music intentionally until 2003, just before I turned 21. Prior to that, nothing had ever really clicked with me or held my interest long enough to even make it through an entire song without my tuning it out and thinking about other things.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:come to think of it I never really listened to music of any kind until about 2005-2006.

I haven't heard too much of their older stuff besides what they play live. I'll check it out along with the other band. Baroness is so sick though! I'm strongly thinking about going to Bonnaroo to see them since they don't do too much touring. Valient Thorr isn't bad either. Very strong lineup.aaron wrote: i honestly prefer older converge (shallow breathing/i abstain is amazing) to their newer stuff, but i stand by my take the jane doe is their best record. they were better with 2 guitarists. if you like early converge i would recommend listening to early cave in, check out the record "until your heart stops."

While they are heavily influenced by Neurosis, and they even talk about it in interviews, I wouldn't call them a rip-off. Their last few albums are very strong they have created a crazy good sound for themselves.Octopod wrote:Mastodon is pretty cool but I always just think that they are a hardcore Neurosis rip-off every time I hear them. Re: What concerts have you attended?
I saw a few good ones this year:
Five Finger Death Punch, twice. And it was worth it to see them twice. They're one of those rare bands that actually sound better live than in the studio and have the stage energy to back the sound up. Soulfly (formerly Sepultura) opened up for them in the first show. I know they're a big metal band and all, but I just can't get into those guys.
I also saw the Aftershock Tour, which was Chevelle, Deftones, Stone Temple Pilots, and Bush along with a few other bands I hadn't heard of before. I was just there for those 4 headlining bands, and they all put on a helluva show. And the crowd was freaking HUGE! We were in Discover Park in Sacramento, CA and it was just a sea of people as far as you looked back. It reminded me of those old videos of Woodstock.
I also saw Iced Earth with Volbeat in Reno, NV. I was quite disappointed in Iced Earth, which was the main reason I went. Not that they played bad, they played quite well. But they only played 5 songs and opened up for Volbeat. Volbeat was just meh, for me. Not a big fan of their stuff. I voiced that opinion on Facebook, and Iced Earth's manager messaged me and told me to remind of this next time Iced Earth comes to our area (which he said Iced Earth is headlining their next tour) and I'll get V.I.P. tickets for free, so that's a pretty freaking sweet deal just for complaining online.
But the grand-daddy of them all, this year or any year was IRON FREAKING MAIDEN!!! Hell yes, they were freaking incredible. Masters at the metal trade. Bruce Dickinson was a shining example of what a metal frontman should be. He owned that stage and had the audience at his command. The stage show was awesome with set changes between songs, pyrotechnics, lazer effects, and a live on-stage Eddie! And they played as you would expect a band with the talent of Iron Maiden to play.
Iron Maiden was one of those kick the bucket list bands. Now I need to see Megadeth, Metallica, and KISS.
Some other concerts I've been too before this year:
-Lots of Local Bands
-3 Inches of Blood
-Floater
-Kansas
-Ozzfest
-Ratt
-Tesla

Re: What concerts have you attended?
Hey, cool thread. I don't do concerts much, but I do like them.
Ones I arranged and/or willfully attended:
They Might Be Giants (x3)
The New Deal
Dave Matthews Band
Simon & Garfunkel
Lord of the Rings Symphony
Blue Man Group
Ones my parents brought me to regardless of my opinion:
Yanni
Anne Murray
For what it's worth, I've been meaning to get to a Radiohead show for about a decade.
