Anyone else looking forward to Hotline Miami?

This game is probably not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but I think it is going to be mine.

Yes, it's an ugly game. The simple pixelated characters and environments all slathered up in nauseating neon splotches is not exactly pretty (though it is an interesting aesthetic choice) and its brutal murderous violence is certainly morally ugly. But I'm excited for this game for gameplay reasons. It looks fun as hell to play for its hyper kinetic, ultra tense, kill-or-be-killed action. See Dopefish's Let's Play Video to see what I mean. He's a very excitable and spastic reviewer, so he's perfect for reviewing this type of breakneck paced game.

I'm also excited about this game because it's the first commercial release from Cactus. If you are not familiar with this game designer, download this free collection of his games. Cactus is weird. His games often tend to have a really bizarre, queazy, and surreal vibe to them. They also tend to have great gameplay and high challenge. Love them or hate them, his games stand out. Hotline Miami looks like it will be no exception.

You can buy Hotline Miami at gog.com.

It's definitely on my list.
Well written review. I can't believe it got a 10 score. I'm so hyped for this game. I keep clicking refresh, waiting for GOG to finally post it up today.

Oh man, this game is intense.

It has so much going for it in terms of level design. You wait to time your entrance into a room so you can take out the nearby guards, then you just have to go ballistic and improvise with all the things you didn't expect to happen.

Like you'll be waiting by a door, quietly in hiding, no weapon in hand, then you BLAM! you kick the door open just as one of the guys walks by, knocking him on his back. You run and pounce on top of him and slam his head against a wall until he's gone. Jump up, grab his gun before a doberman pinscher comes skittering around the hall. You raise the barrel as it leaps and BLAM! you shoot backwards just before it rips your throat out. Three bedroom doors swing wide open as shotgun wielding guards run to see what the noise is about. You lie in wait in the shower and as the first two come in BLAM! BLAM! you take them out, but you're out of bullets. The 3rd guy comes and you throw your gun in his face, pick up a baseball bat, straddle him and bash his head in just as someone else sneaks up behind you from the side door with an automatic and splatters your brains across the tile.

The whole thing is just so intense like that. Wait. Attack. React. Hide. Scurry. Leap. Shoot. The pace is frantic and it never lets you rest easy. And meanwhile, the sound and visuals do crazy things as your killings increase. It subconsciously plays with your mind. It's disturbing, but I want more.

So, this is a one hit kill game right? If it is, everything you said sounds even more awesome. I want to play this. Sounds like someone finally made a shooter where you can't just lazily go through a fight sucking up bullets like a robot with your gigantic, BS health bar or regenerating health
