This game is probably not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but I think it is going to be mine.
Yes, it's an ugly game. The simple pixelated characters and environments all slathered up in nauseating neon splotches is not exactly pretty (though it is an interesting aesthetic choice) and its brutal murderous violence is certainly morally ugly. But I'm excited for this game for gameplay reasons. It looks fun as hell to play for its hyper kinetic, ultra tense, kill-or-be-killed action. See Dopefish's Let's Play Video to see what I mean. He's a very excitable and spastic reviewer, so he's perfect for reviewing this type of breakneck paced game.
I'm also excited about this game because it's the first commercial release from Cactus. If you are not familiar with this game designer, download this free collection of his games. Cactus is weird. His games often tend to have a really bizarre, queazy, and surreal vibe to them. They also tend to have great gameplay and high challenge. Love them or hate them, his games stand out. Hotline Miami looks like it will be no exception.
