I'd dare to say this is the director's best film (I still have a fond appreciation for Der Todesking though  ). It's along the line of Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer and it's about a... serial killer  and while it's definetely disturbing and violent (There's a scene similar to the one in Sick: The Life and Death Of Bob Flanagan where he drives a nail through... fill the blanks), this one feels, looks and works much better than anything Jörg Buttgereit directed before. It's really good and the main character is portrayed flawlessly by Florian Koerner.
I definitely enjoyed Nekromantik a lot more. Still need to see Nekromantik 2, however.

Friday the 13th Part VII The New Blood

Kane Hodder FTW!

I've always been mixed on this one. The telekenetic girl is kind of a meh plot for me. But hey, at least they were trying some new stuff. A definite hint at all the weird directions the series would take in the near future. The sleeping bag scene is of course classic though. Haha.

4/5

I love THE NEW BLOOD. To me it is the quintessential slasher flick that every horror parody tries to emulate. It's also the first movie I saw boobies in, so bonus points for that. The slimy psychologist is great, even the throwaway campers are pretty good, and the lead does a great job at looking scared, and then angry, and then back to scared. This movie has my favorite "Jason face reveal" in the entire series. Love Jason's look
so much in this movie that I thought about purchasing one of those overpriced figures from movie collectibles (or whatever it is called).

I have an on going argument with a friend who has firmly stated "Kane Hodder is the best Jason who has never been in a decent Jason movie". I think VII is a decent Jason movie.
Aside from Part IV: The Final Chapter, The New Blood is definitely my favorite F13 flick - I love everything about it. The telekinetic, Tina is such an interesting character in the F13 universe (they even brought her back in the comics!), and it's awesome that they introduced a worthy, though equally vulnerable adversary for Jason.

Oh yeah, and Kane Hodder is cool too, of course.

Check it out, it's completely different in tone but it's more enjoyable. Der Todesking is absolutely amazing as well.

Also, the soundtrack, like in the first one... is absolutely incredible. Just listen to this. It's beautiful!

Let Me In
Image

Watched this last night :D

Let me start off by saying that this is a good movie. The kids do a great job and they have a decent supporting cast. It's also shot well, with an appropriate color palette and nice use of light and shadow.

Now that I've said that though, I also have to add that this is the exact same movie as Let The Right One In, the original film it was based on. I'm not kidding. There were large parts where I swear the script was taken verbatim from the original. Very little was changed and for the most part, what was changed was very minute: Names, locations, things like that.

One of the more noticeable changes I picked up on was the amount of blood. I watched Let the Right One In last year, so I my memory might be a little fuzzy, but I don't remember it being quite this bloody. Oh, it had it's fair share all right, but I think the violence level was kicked up a few notches from the original. Not so much a complaint, as an observation.

Another thing I noticed was that Abby's movements when going all blood thirsty were a lot more...jerky. I don't remember Eli's movements being quite so spastic in the original. It reminds me of those damned twitchy Japanese ghosts. This is a vampire movie, not a ghost movie. She should be able to be creepily strong and agile without looking like she's having horrible muscle spasms.

All in all, it's a very decent adaptation. The movie is creepy and touching and while very little of the script was changed, emphasis was changed from certain scenes, giving this movie a different feel than the original.

It's a good movie, but I do still prefer Let The Right One In. It has a bit more subtly than Let Me In and I usually appreciate those small, subtle touches more. Excellent companion movie.

I loved Let The Right One In, but haven't bothered seeing the remake yet.

The only reason I have the remake is because I found the DVD, complete with mini-comic book insert, for $2 at a thrift store. If it hadn't been so cheap, I wouldn't have bothered. The original is only a couple years older than the remake, so I really wasn't interested. It's more than worth what I paid for it, but as the same time it is really similar to the original. I mean, they're both great movies, but they're both pretty much, well, the same great movie.

I agree mostly with this. I own the remake on Bluray and not the original only because I haven't found a cheap price on it yet. The original in my opinion has much better cinematography. Though the remake is still very good with high production values, I still prefer the original for that reason. The remake is definitely more violent and uses some cgi which doesn't benefit it either.

I really enjoyed this. Captain Kronos is a badass who charms the ladies, is loyal to his hunchbacked sidekick, and certainly knows how to kick an ass or two.

Though it was a Hammer flick, the vampire was more akin to the Chinese take on the mythology, where the creatures are more interested in absorbing life essence than blood. A unique Western undertone flows throughout the film, especially during scenes at the local pub. These opposing cultural elements blend nicely with the film's gothic setting, and the attentive execution of the piece helps it stand out overall.

I plan on it. I'm burned out on 'shock horror' for the time being. And yeah, the sound/music is totally one of the coolest aspects of both Nekromantik, and Schramm.
