You think mystic quest is one of the best?

>_> That's unexpected.

I like mystic quest yes. I like the older 16 bit style final fantasy games the best. I do like Final Fantasy IX and VII. I thought IX was great. I just prefer the mideavel swords and magic jrps better. Which is why I might like IV better than VI although VI had steampunkish qualities its still felt like a sword and magic type JRPG. It is hard for me to rank IV and VI for me.

It looks like I haven't posted in this thread. I should preface this by saying that I began this series with FF 3 on the SNES, which I think was FF 6 in Japan. I think I'll try a different approach here

Favorite combat system
1. Final Fantasy XIII/XIII-2 - This is as fast paced, action packed and cinematic as FF combat is ever going to get and I love it.
2. FF X - I loved having access to ALL your party members and being able to predict enemy attacks Grandia style. The game's interesting use of summons was brilliant too.
3. Crisis Core - This is the closest FF has ever come to being a beat em up.
4. FF XII - If you learned how to use gambits correctly, it was a brilliant system that rewarded people with a great mind for strategy.

Honorable mention goes to FF X-2 for kind of being the pre cursor to FFXIII/XIII-2's combat sytem by having real time combat where characters and enemies could attack simultaneously and a job system which when combined with FF XII's Gambit system became FF XIII's "paradigm" system.

Most nostalgic for me
1. FF 3 (US numbering system, it was 6 in Japan) - My first rpg
2. FF 7 - An Xmas gift from an old girlfriend that was one of my earliest Playstation games and officially the second FF game I ever played
3. FF Tactics - I wasted a summer away playing the hell out of this whenever I wasn't hanging out with my friends

Best Story
1. FF 3 (Again, US numbering)
2. FF 7
3. FF X

Best challenge
FF XII - Ridiculously strong optional bosses that literally took an hour to take down, and an achievement system in a PS2 game! Truthfully, some of the optional stuff was probably too hard, including how time consuming and luck based it was getting all of the items in the game, but I felt proud tackling all of this game's challenges. I wouldn't do it again though.

Best Graphics
FF XIII by a country mile - FF XIII-2 isn't too far behind actually, but Gran Pulse was so beautiful in FF XIII and less impressive in FF XIII-2 when they took out most of enemies wondering around the map and made the whole area smaller

Best soundtrack
1. FF 3 (US) and FF 7 - tie
2. FF X
3. FF XIII - This is brilliant

Best mini-games
1. FF 8 - Triple Triad card game was awesome
2. FF X-2 - Had some of the most interesting mini-games I've seen in an FF game.
3. FF X - Blitzball was better than people give it credit for

Most embarrassing
FF X-2 - It's like they made an FF game about the Spice Girls. Ugh, this was the low point of the series as far as story and characters go. The story itself was pointless since FF X told a complete story that didn't need a sequel

Best overall
1. FF 3 (US)
2. FF 7
3. FF X - The last truly great FF game

Most overrated
FF 9 - A boring entry that was just pandering to the FF7/FF8 haters who didn't like the more modern technological and sci fi elements put into the series. The story was lame too.

Most underrated
FF 8 - The Junction system was great and the whole thing was a worthy follow up to FF7 with a decent story and amazing graphics for the time. Triple Triad was awesome and I loved the rare items you got from it that could make your whole party invincible. I actually have a bunch of FF8 figurines. It's the only FF game I can say that about

Most obvious example of Square "selling out" the franchise
All the FF cameos in the Kingdom Hearts games

My Most hated
All of the MMORPG entries, which shouldn't be numbered installments in the franchise

Why?

Did you ever play them?

I never really cared for II or IV honestly. VI is also a bit overrated.

I could never get into II, but then again all I played was the PS1 re-release so I'm not even sure that should count.
I also somehow never figured out what the fuss was about with IV. I played it briefly and abandoned it in favor of V, which I absolutely love because of the job system. When I beat V, I started IV again, but then I got VI, which is the best Final Fantasy there is, was, and ever will be, period.
So yeah, out of the FFs I've played, the only ones I don't like were the ones I didn't play properly. My opinion shouldn't really be relevant.

I'd say that while 4 isn't on my top 5 FF list, I would put it rather high, if not at the top, of most innovative FF list. Imagine 5-9 without the semi-real time battle system!

My order from favorite to least favorite

X
VI
IV
VIII
XII
IX
All the others
VII.

I have owned several versions of VII (PSX, PSone Classics, PC) and have only been able to play through it once. I honestly don't know why people like it so much. For a lot of people it was the first game they played in the series, that holds a lot of meaning to them. For others they like the story. For me I have never cared for the story. I though the characters were cliche and boring, and I never cared to for the futuristic cyberpunk type of feel the game had.

With that said, I actually liked VIII. I thought the story was great, the characters actually looked realistic, the graphics were amazing for the time, you actually got to control the GF's (summons), also I really loved the Draw system. It did get monotonous having to collect all of the various spells, but what you could do with those spells like equipping them and having them increase your stats and what not was great it added a whole new level of strategy. This system also made it really exciting to engage new monsters. You always wanted to Draw from them to see what spells they were carrying.

My favorite Final Fantasy game would have to be Final Fantasy IX. Growing up it was Final Fantasy VII (got me into RPG's) but as time wore on Final Fantasy IX turned out to be the one.

My least favorite would have to be Final Fantasy II(the original) The GBA version was alright to play but the other versions (PSP, PS1) I could never even think about playing
