Nice.

One last thing... Does the datasette have its own power supply like the floppy drive does?

No. The grey data cable also supplies power from the C64.

Cool. I never saw a mention of power cords in ebay auctions and I was getting a bit nervous.

I have the larger rectangular datasette. It had a braided ground cable which I just wrapped around the data plug cord out of the way. Required by FCC, too much a pain to install and risk of shorting the PCB.

Here is your shopping wish list. Look for a certain blue speedup cart at the bottom. I used one of these perfect for Sublogic Jet 2.0. :D

I'm guessing that a regular tape deck wouldn't work?

Well thats lame. I know the Supercharger for the 2600 used tapes to load games, but it was through the audio port on any tape deck that would allow you to play the game. Also allowing you to take the audio and put it on a CD or your iPod for convenience.

How did the Commodore 64 tape thing work?

I think it is audio pitches, but a regular tape deck will not work. The C64 would start and stop the tape deck as it loads data. A kind of interactive control as in a hard drive but much much slower.
