This was the first FF that i beat. I have played others before, but only for a while. And they weren't mine.

A friend of mine went halfers on it when we saw it used at a video rental store. I think we paid $25 back when it was still full price.

Yup. I hated Blitzball as well. Why would you put an rpg sport in? I never fully played this game and Wakka may have become the weakest character. I guess he gets more powerful with every game he wins. But since I only played the perfunctory/mandatory games he only had his one overdrive attack.

Since I let my friend play the game first (and on my memory card) he pretty much found all of the al-bhed letters for me. When It came time for me to play, this made it much easier.

I still have my old gameinformer mini-guide. That one helped me out a lot. I also came across the official strategy guide. So one of these days, I may take another crack at it as well.

This could be a beginners FF rpg. Enough to get newbies interested and then move on to other square product.

oh, and one more thing, much as I tried. I didn't like FFX-2. Go figure.

Playing FFX when it first came out is completely different than playing FFX nowadays.

When it was released, it was a reason to purchase a PS2. The sound, graphics, and story were like nothing we had seen before. It was jaw dropping, and I know a handful of friends who dropped classes before noon so they could play FFX all morning long. Blizball was more than welcome because there wasn't anything else like it at the time.

It's also the first game that I know of where people would pay others to level up their characters. Kind of blew my mind that people would pay for someone else to play their game.

Like FF7, like it or loathe it, FFX is a classic.

I think the real issue with Blitzball is just how damn long it is. It's not like it involves reflexes like an actual sports game; it's all about your stats. But previous minigames like Triple Triad were quick, so if you were winning you won fast, and if you were losing you'd lose fast. With Blitzball you're locked in for what feels like an eternity.

FFX-2 is way better than FFX. It has all of the good things from that game and none of the bad ones. And, if you ignore the shameless pandering, it is one of the few games that has a proper FFV-style job system. Besides spinoffs, it has the best gameplay in the series!

I've never played FFX-2 past that opening scene with the pop concert.

But you sat through Blitzball matches you knew you would lose?

For some reason I was stupid enough to continue, I slogged about a quarter way through and it's my most sour experience with the entire franchise to date. Even beyond how utterly retarded everything is, the gameplay itself did nothing for me either. I'd take XIII over it.

Only blitzball match I ever played through was the one you're required to play in story mode. :P

Which is a little difficult to win because your team sucks.

They could at least make the scoring and goal saving animations different. It's always the same thing over and over.

Same here.

I actually really enjoyed the game. It was one of the first PS2 games I played when I finally snagged the system in early 2004. The music and graphics blew me away. I made it close to the end before quitting forever, for reasons not really related to the game itself.
