FFX

Post by fredthezombie »

Hey guys I have been debating wether or not I should play FFX but I have heard such mixed reviews I get so many people saying that it was "the best thing since sliced bread, in 2001" but apparently it sucks today? What do you guys think? All nostalgia set aside.

Mixed reviews? It was critically acclaimed when it came out. It's so good, it's getting an HD re-release. It had a brilliant, strategic combat system. The blitzball mini-game was brilliant once you learned how to play and who the best team members were. It was basically a mini-rpg. FF X was gorgeous and I don't care what anyone says, it had a great story and great characters. It was the last truly great FF game. It's one of my favorite FF games and I get annoyed when people on the forum bash it, but they are all entitled to their opinion

I liked it, but it was one of the first PS2 games I ever played and I was in 5th grade. In retrospect, the story is pretty stupid but the combat was engrossing (to me at least.) I put about 100 hours into it. And Blitzball is amazing.

Not my favorite FF, but a good swan song for Square Soft. Their last good game. Better than everything Square Enix has pooped out combined ever since.

Yes I hear FFXIII is not so good, but I have it, I have too many games on my "too play" list

FF X definitely has its downfalls (I'm not alone when I say that I didn't enjoy blitzball). However, the actual turn-based combat is nearly perfected in this game. All kinds of abilities and spells that have been more or less useless throughout the entire series finally get a chance to shine (for example, not only is the protect spell useful but you'd find yourself having quite a hard time without it). The boss battles in particular are excellent, you'll have to devise and employ different strategies to match their noticeably unique behaviors and battle circumstances. While the story and characters aren't fantastic (I wouldn't call them "bad" though), the actual gameplay is very good and as a whole the game is quite enjoyable.
