This game had not gotten a second look from me untill a few days ago, I had heard the title, and seen the cover and assumed it was going to be some third person action shooter (the cover reminded me of Army of Two, so I guess thats where I got the idea). That was until my wife and I were watching episodes of Face Off (a special effects make up show) and they did an episode on this game, calling it "one of 2012's most anticipated games" which I laughed at, considering all of the heavy hitting titles that are set to come out this year. But then they explained the game and showed some footage and I was immediatly interested, and started looking more into the game and liked what I was seeing.
I have had a chance to play the game for about 6 or so hours, and it is awesome! It feels like Bioshock, Assissns Creed, and Hitman rolled into one. The stealth is very fun, and with your various powers you really can get the drop on enimies and keep out of sight. The combat is violent and unforgiving, if you are spotted and have to engage a large group it is very easy to die, one good blow from a sword will kill you, as will a well placed bullet. Every section has multiple ways of achieving your goal, some obvious ways, and some not so obvious. The replay value is through the roof on this, I have problems with even finishing a lot of games, not only do I want to finish this, I want to play it again and try a different approach to the levels, maybe try a no kill playthough.
To anyone that has complained about all there is is sequals and nothing new out there, this is the game to pick up. This is not a "wait till its cheaper" game, this is a game that needs to be bought now to show that the people want new games with new ideas. I feel that this game has come out at a terrible time though, they are trying to beat the huge releases this holiday season (COD, Halo, Assissans Creed etc..) but I fear this will get swept under the carpet as some low quality game, and that is a shame.
If you want something fresh with some great ideas, interesting story, and awesome gameplay, you owe it to yourself to pick this up.

Re: Dishonored
The stealth stuff really has my interest. I had a lot of fun with Mark of the Ninja's well designed stealth elements. If this game does that right in 3D then I will check it out at some point. Too much I want to play right now.
Stealth is such a love/hate genre for me. I hate most of them because they tend to be not well designed, but I LOVE stealth those few times that someone nails it.

Have you played it through yet? Does it have any tricks or gimmicks that weren't already used in Thief II: The Metal Age or Deus Ex?jay_red wrote:this is a game that needs to be bought now to show that the people want new games with new ideas.

Stealing ideas from those two is to be expected from this game (Arx Fatalis, the interview) that's why people are intrested in it the first place. I'm just curious if they added any twists to the gameplay mechanics. I'm buying this game either ways.MrPopo wrote: I don't even know what to say to this.

I clearly state that I am about 6 hours into the game in my post, so I obviously have not played through it yet. As for the "gimmicks" you mention, I have not played the Thief of Deus Ex series, so I wouldnt know how much is or is not borrowed from those titles. You seem to imply that this game is somehow a rip of of those 2 titles. Just because it may or may not use similar ideas from games from years ago, doesnt mean it isnt a fresh concept, you are getting new settings, new story and new characters. All woven together with very tight gameplay that combines a lot of emelents successfully, and most importantly, it is FUN to play.
Edit:
After seeing your response post, you may not have meant to sound so condecending, but based on the excerpt you quoted and the implied tone, My self and other members took it as such.

It's not unheard of for a modern AAA game to be 7-8 hours long (almost seems like the norm) which is why I asked that.jay_red wrote: I clearly state that I am about 6 hours into the game in my post, so I obviously have not played through it yet.
Harvey Smith's interview+Arx Fatalis. You put 2 and 2 together. Whether you want to use the word "rip off" or "self-proclaimed spiritual successor" is up to you.jay_red wrote:You seem to imply that this game is somehow a rip of of those 2 titles.
The last game that tried to pull that one off was Bioshock. Remember how that turned out?jay_red wrote: Just because it may or may not use similar ideas from games from years ago, doesnt mean it isnt a fresh concept, you are getting new settings, new story and new characters.
And before you ask: no, I am not saying that Bioshock was a bad game, I really enjoyed playing it.

Precisely. I'm interested in it because it seems to hit the same awesome points as Deus Ex. Your original post seemed to imply that was a bad thing.jay_red wrote:Edit:Menegrothx wrote:Have you played it through yet? It wouldn't be nearly as awesome if it wasn't first person.Jrecee wrote:First person. . . sigh.
