The HD WEGA supports 720p just fine and there is no delay in screen draw. If a 4:3 HD Tube, anything above 480p will result in black bars on top and bottom since it then reverts to widescreen mode. Some Cable TV, DVD, Bluray and Digital Boxes can "anamorphic" the screen to reduce to black bars. To get an idea of the imagery, try either PS2 Gran Turismo 4 or PS2 Tourist Trophy in 480p and then again at 720p. These two NTSC PS2 games can go all the way to 1080i right out of the box.
Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree here. It will take a 720p signal, but no consumer CRT I know of will truly display 720p, it will upscale to 1080i. None of the HD WEGAs I've tried, nor the XBR-960 I owned, will do such a thing. Support does not equal able to display. Much like the old LCD and Plasma TVs that "support" 1080p/i but actually only have 1280x720p to work with, and simply downscale the picture.

Unless you were using support in the way I was, in which case, sorry for the misinterpretation.

Oh yeah. Those 1366x768 TVs are annoying too. Neither 720p or 1080i is going to quite look right.

1920x1200 PC monitors as well. 360 and PS3 don't output that mode. Nor bluray movies.

With those, it's mostly a matter of how the monitor itself handles (or is set to handle) non-native resolutions. Many can/will display 1080p with black bars, stretching or scaling nothing.

1366x768, on the other hand, became the typical "720p" panel resolution and does tend to resample basically everything unless you're using it as a PC monitor.
