Man, I always hated the name of that game. I nearly bought it on a few occasions, only to decide against doing so because of its terribly redundant name.Intangir wrote:Divine Divinity (2002) -- basically if you took Diablo or Sacred and focused more on the RPG part (one of my favorites, and also has a sequel coming next year). Avoid Beyond Divinity.

Yeah Divine Divinity, despite the name, is totally worth playing and often overlooked. It's not-so-much a loot-hunt in the vein of typical Diablo clones, but more like some oldschool Diablo type gameplay mixed with a stronger RPG story, quests, and a nifty Ultima VII style interaction with all sorts of things in the the world (e.g. drag and dropping stacks of hay in a barn to uncover a secret door and underground cellar).
I thought the game starts out a bit slow, but once you're able to leave the introductory town it opens up quite a bit and you can run around exploring the world as you like. Similarly, the endgame also has a few problems as well as it seems it was rushed and left incomplete--the game will drop you in a new, fairly large map area that you can explore but there's really nothing to do there except go to the final dungeon. But the vast expanse in between those two parts was largely a very enjoyable experience for me so I still heartily recommend it.
Plus the music was awesome.
Speaking of games I haven't gotten around to (and poorly named ones at that), you could always try Depths of Peril. It's basically a Diablo clone with a bit of a genre twist; there are computer guilds that will compete/work with you and do the same quests. So it essentially incorporates Civilization style diplomacy in a Diablo clone and gives you a feeling of playing an MMORPG in a SP game. It's a pretty neat idea and it's been on my backlog of games to try when I get the time. Read this short, sweet review for some better info, and here's the demo if you're interested.

The page I linked has links to various reviews from different outlets including this one by Greg Kasavin before he resigned from GameSpot. Lots of the PC boards I go to loved the game when it came out for it's accessibility, color, and tried-n-true Diablo style formula that strings you along via loot and levels. I think the game is free to try on their website so it's easy enough to see whether or not it fits the bill. I never got around to playing it myself as it seemed a bit too simplistic for my tastes, but even when I just felt like playing something quick and easy I could never get past the "Made by WildTangent" part--despite numerous people already playing the game without any problems as far as adware/spyware goes.lildozer74 wrote:can anyone tell me about Fate?? saw some screens for this one.....looks pretty good.

has anyone heard of Silverfall? is it any good? It looks pretty cool, but i never judge a book by its cover. Also I just started divine divinity, so far so good. im also looking into Fate. I just got so bored of Sacred, playing it over and over again really grows on ya.
