We love TF2, Half Life, Doom, Unreal (and UT) and a bunch of other GOOD FPS games. It's the modern yearly updates that we consider the plague.jfrost wrote:That's amazing, because Gears of War isn't even an FPS. People don't hate FPS in Racketboy, there just aren't many good games in the genre to discuss.
I'm willing to make a TF2 strategy thread, though.

Isn't this a "retro" forum?MrPopo wrote:Because the two systems are effectively identical now.Zing wrote:The thing that has always confused me is why the Sony and Microsoft boards are the same. There was no Xbox back when I had my PlayStation!
Maybe there should be a "modern" subforum, and leave the poor PlayStation alone!

Between the various genre forums and the Microsoft/Sony forum, there's not really a lot in gaming that doesn't have a home with the current set up.Zing wrote: Maybe there should be a "modern" subforum, and leave the poor PlayStation alone!
The problem with creating new subforums is a matter of populating them with threads. If you look at the current set up, every subforum is very well utilized. There are constantly threads being created and updated, the sign of a healthy community.
...except for Platformers. As of this moment, Platformers has only had 2 updates in the last week. Now ask yourself for a second: If Platformers, which was the staple of gaming for the 8bit and 16bit generations, doesn't get much use...how successful would an FPS subforum be?
And full disclosure here: I fought for a platformers subforum a year or so ago, so I had some hand in that one getting created. In retrospect, it was a mistake.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I was in favor of that one too, but the problem is that the biggest platformers (Sonic, Mario, Donkey Kong) are usually discussed in the specific console forums (Sega and Nintendo) instead of there.Flake wrote:Between the various genre forums and the Microsoft/Sony forum, there's not really a lot in gaming that doesn't have a home with the current set up.Zing wrote: Maybe there should be a "modern" subforum, and leave the poor PlayStation alone!

The other genres are more sporadic when it comes to where they got released so when you want to talk about a game of that genre you wouldn't know where to make the topic. But still I don't want to see the platformer subforum go.

Yeah, sometimes I think the forum should be divided by console or by genre. It's a little weird that it's both.
The one thing I really like from the last forum change though is that we now have the "games as culture" forum. It's not hugely populated, but I feel like we get some of our best discussion there.
