Besides the price it kind of bothers me that they span four different Sony systems. Would have been nice if they did some more consolidating with ports, or maybe if it included digital versions that could all be played on the PS3.

Now that you point that out, yeah I agree. I didn't even notice that, quite odd.

I'm super tempted to get this but I just can't justify throwing that kind of money around at this point in my life.

But, you have to remember, Japanese media in general is extremely expensive so this price isn't exactly surprising. I'm surprised it's not even more. I mean, new releases in Japan can wind up costing around $100 alone, and there are some anime blu-ray releases that cost over $1,000. So a limited run collector's set celebrating one of the most popular gaming franchise ever, containing 10 games and more costing $450, isn't very surprising to me at all.

only thing that bugs me is the fact that FF3 is on PSP. If it were'nt for that, you could play all of these on a backwards compatible ps3.

How will XI work? Will it come with a free year or something?

Well, it's the only release of FF III on a Sony platform. So no other choice really. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the PSP port of the DS remake was set into motion just for this collection.

I imagine that XI will simply come with the normally included 30 days of subscription time.

It's probably only being included for completion's sake - the Vana'diel Collection 2 is the Japanese title for what was released on 360 and PC in the U.S. as the Ultimate Collection...in 2009. Far as I know, it actually is the most recent release for non-PC platforms, but at this point is incomplete in regard to add-ons as it doesn't include any of the Abyssea ones.

Could be they'll at least stick codes for the Abyssea add-ons, and maybe some of the other bonus items in there, but they don't mention it.

I'd think that if they were doing some odd premium bonus for XI, they'd at least include what'd be considered the "full" game.

That still seems like a bit of a stretch for me. So you would only need two systems if you still had a working fat PS3. I'm just a bit upset this is more of a 'Collectors' box rather then a 'Players' box, but to each his own.

It would be nice to also have something along the lines of the MegaMan / X collections back on PS2, and for an affordable price. I think they owe us as much given how many times they have repackaged and ported the first few games and sold them at retail.

For a second I thought this was going to be a US release of the boxset, but it's just an artbook. Still seems cool though.
