title of the thread should not be "now selling"

"Raines offered no timetable for this expansion, merely noting his company is "working on some stuff we haven't announced yet.""

That's what I took from this too. They seem kind of desperate to find a way to stay relevant in gaming's uncertain, but unarguably increasingly digital, future.

I really don't think this particular route is going to work out for them.

Look I shop at Gamestop because they carry stuff I want, but it would be shit if they tried selling retro stuff. I just know it will.

You guys all realize that Gamestop actually used to sell retro stuff right? I imagine pricing will be similar to what it was then.

Truth be told though, I'm kinda indifferent to the idea. I likely wouldn't be buying from them either way anyway.

Yeah but it was new then, then it went to the bargain bins, then they went fully current gen and did "something" to their remaining stock. I think we have a pretty good idea what they did.

But if it is bargain bin prices (which I doubt, if they're looking at ebay) then I would probably buy from there.

There will be no good to come from this.
The US used game market will become even more f'd up than it already is (and has become that way largely because of GS). The worst part of all is, people, whom are lazy, apathetic, and just indifferent, will still go to GS because "it's there" and despite all the complaining about GS, they will simply be giving GS control of them and freedom to price as they wish.
If you have any retro games that you gotta have an original of (because I'm sure many more games will be going digital retro like VC/PSN), you should acquire them now. :(

Why is everyone so sure that this will be a negative thing?

Might it be possible that this will open up the possibility of finding some more expensive "vintage games" for a much lower price? I can't see them getting away with commanding more than $30-$40 at the VERY high end for any given older title in a store or online, and there are a lot of games for older systems that would be a STEAL at those kind of prices. I am picturing $25 copies of Guardian Heroes or $50 copies of Earthbound. Do you think they'd really be able to charge "market value" for these titles? They certainly don't charge "market value" for some of their rarer current/last-gen stuff - it is often worth picking up some used PS2 or GCN games at GS if you can, for example, as you'll pay much less if you can find a copy there than you would on eBay, etc.

On the other hand, expect plenty of $1 games to be sold for $5-$10 or more...

Because it is GS.
Walking into an "evil" store expecting a good deal on something that commands a high price used is like putting your hand into boiling water, expecting it to be cold.
