Gamestop selling "vintage" games online in the near future
Well, what the title says.

You know, I honestly don't know what to think of this. Gamestop (I would think) couldn't beat the prices of mom and pop stores but idk. What do you guys think, and to any owners of any game stores (gamestop or otherwise), what do you think about it specifically as well concerning your business?

There go all the Genesis clam shells out the window.
I am for this as long as the would keep all the cases, but I doubt that will happen since they already get rid of PS2 and most other as I have heard.

Battletoads?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

They better just take the phones off the hook if they do this.

The article says expanding ONLINE sales catalogue, meaning store will most likely stay the same.

I wonder how they'll go about pricing things. That ebay reference probably isn't a good sign. haha

Re: Gamestop now selling "vintage" games
I'm sure gamestop has some old warehouses full of merch.
Waiting for the day the "ice cream melts just right"
Were classic collecting is in, and people will pay top dollar for those old games.
I doubt it will go to every store in the US. But some large cities/major markets will get a classic games section.
I'm quite sure the website will offer games for the causal classic collector and the CIB harcore collector.
And we will be ready with all of our love, hate, praise and defintely complaints.
But like it or not GS is for many gamers in the US the only videogame store in town. Yeah there's mom and pop stores and local retailers, but we live in a society where we can get instant gratification and buy it now! 'Causal Collector JOE' who's reminiscing about that N64 game he played in his youth is not going to waste his time on ebay and scouring weeks at the fleamarket to find that one game. When he can go directly to gamestop and order it.
I'm sure Gamestop is gonna focus on fifth gen consoles. Theres more of this stuff out there, being less than 15 years old. Which will be more than likely complete in box. They are getting ready for the new generation of classic gamers whose first console was the PS1 and N64. Right now the SNES garners a high premium because its current fanbase is the 30something that wants his first system back. In a few years all of this clamor will go toward the N64. Its been slow now, but theres gonna be a surge of repopularity for nintendo's last cart based system.
Older cartrige based sytems will be available, but these older games may run the risk of being damaged (by being old stuff). Yeah, We still have our carts and they are quite durable, but GS cant take that risk. There may be lots of returns of these games, which may or may not work. Not that its the games fault. Maybe the customers console is damaged and they dont have need for the game since the system isnt working. CD based games are easier to ship and easier to destroy if defective. You know they are going to do this!
Lets hope that this time around GS will pay more attention to us collectors and limit the stickers and things that will ruin the boxes of the stuff we like to buy.
We still have to wait and see if maybe gamestop has the connections and abilty to reproduce disc based console games. If its profitable for them I'm sure they'll go the route of Game quest direct and reprint your fave ps1 game.

I don't know about easier. I'm concerned of the effect this is going to have on prices. Also judging by this story it seems like they're only selling old games online, not in stores.
Personally I think GameStop needs to keep its nose out of this market. No good can come of them buying up all the stock they can get their hands on and selling it for whatever they want.
Right now they're only talking about it anyway, it's not a certainty yet. The only positive thing is a lot of games might be liberated from their warehouses that have been rotting there since the 90's.
I guess ultimately they've finally cracked under the pressure of not carrying Battletoads.

They would still accept trade-ins?...
I don't know who would do that but it's possible.

I thought about that too. Hopefully GS will have multiple warehouses slam full of EarthBound carts that they want to get rid of.

I'm pretty sure the article says that.

If any, but if it's successful I don't see why not?
