Certainly would be a nice game to play on your nice, new Wii. There's talk of a PC version in the works. Maybe you can check it out then.
Just try and avoid anything on the net that might spoil the story or reveal any puzzle solutions before you play it. Braid works best as a game that surprises you.
PC version is a definite according to Jonathan Blow, but we just don't know when. Probably a few months. PSN and WiiWare probably won't see it from what I can tell reading interviews with him. Kind of odd, because you would think he likes money. Most people do....
You know the only real issues I have with Braid is that it's low on replay, and I'm not personally a fan of "open to interpretation" storylines, though other people don't mind.
I feel the need to say this, as some people have given the game perfect tens. One person even said, "everything before Braid was trash"and others are implying that Braid is the only game to ever prove that games can be art(um hello, have these people not played Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Rez and a bunch of other games I could probably mention)
Once again, we have the Bioshock effect. Something comes out that's a little bit different and people make it out to be the greatest game ever. Critics are a sad lot, so easy to impress. Braid is pretty cool though, don't misunderstand me. Sometimes I think that some critics just like sounding smarter than everyone else(self important, pretentious bastards LOL)
Man I am sooo pissed. I had to look up a couple of solutions on World 5. What hung me up was that I didn't realize the shadow will CONTINUE on the path Tim WOULD have gone on even BEYOND the point where you rewind time. I assumed it was an exact mirror of your actions, not a "parallel universe" effect. I feel like if I had been aware of this I very likely would have solved these two levels myself. It's the first time I missed having some kind of tutorial or text box telling me a least a bit about what's happening. It's all based on observation, and I guess I just never noticed this particular design mechanic.
I'm just pissed because I feel like I cheated myself, but it's really hard to play the game when you don't fully know the rules. Oh well, on to world 6.
GFL - I don't mind not having too much replay value if it's an interesting journey. I wouldn't want that for all or even most games but it begs the question: does every single title have to be packed with replay value? How often do we watch movies or read books over and over? Sometimes with the best ones we do, but I don't discount a great book if I don't immediately have the desire to re-read it.
I dunno. I just sometimes feel like everything in games is so based on value and money. It's like if something doesn't present some of perceived fantastic value it gets knocked. (This is not a personal flame, btw, you just got me to thinking. I hear where you're coming from because this IS a damn expensive hobby.)
