Did you play the same Gamecube that I did? The GC was derided for being kiddy in its day same as the Wii is now.
That's not because of the games but because of the low online capability compared to the PS2 and XBox which had many popular OFPSs. Also sometimes of it's psychical design or its "lunchbox" design.
It was because of the games.
Everything else just added to it.
There's always someone that comes out of the woodwork and goes "Hey, I loved game such and such on the GameCube so neener neener." Sure, it was home to some good titles -- every console has at least SOMETHING worth playing. The GameCube gave us Metroid Prime (and then unfortunately Metroid Prime 2), Wind Waker and Luigi's Mansion. It also gave us games that pissed all over Nintendo's classic franchises -- Super Mario Sunshine, Kirby Air Ride, the destruction of the Mario Party series -- and a controller only one peg above the Dreamcast to play them with.
Some of the GameCube's best material didn't come from Nintendo, and that's not the norm with a Nintendo console. -- F-Zero, Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia are all good examples. To me, the GameCube represents a Nintendo that had lost their way, and the Wii represents a Nintendo catching up from where they fell behind.
I'd pick the Wii any day of the week -- the library is bigger, more varied, more interesting, and you can still play the handful of GameCube games worth playing that haven't already been remastered for the Wii.
