Did you play the same Gamecube that I did? The GC was derided for being kiddy in its day same as the Wii is now.

That's not because of the games but because of the low online capability compared to the PS2 and XBox which had many popular OFPSs. Also sometimes of it's psychical design or its "lunchbox" design.

Lol, no. It's because Nintendo alienated all their 3rd party developers with their draconian business practices and decision to stick with carts. The moment there was a viable alternative (PSX) developers jumped ship.

And with an install base like the PS2 had, they weren't going back to Nintendo for awhile.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

And then Nintendo said "Fine, we don't need you and your install base" and created the Wii.

It was because of the games.

Everything else just added to it.

There's always someone that comes out of the woodwork and goes "Hey, I loved game such and such on the GameCube so neener neener." Sure, it was home to some good titles -- every console has at least SOMETHING worth playing. The GameCube gave us Metroid Prime (and then unfortunately Metroid Prime 2), Wind Waker and Luigi's Mansion. It also gave us games that pissed all over Nintendo's classic franchises -- Super Mario Sunshine, Kirby Air Ride, the destruction of the Mario Party series -- and a controller only one peg above the Dreamcast to play them with.

Some of the GameCube's best material didn't come from Nintendo, and that's not the norm with a Nintendo console. -- F-Zero, Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia are all good examples. To me, the GameCube represents a Nintendo that had lost their way, and the Wii represents a Nintendo catching up from where they fell behind.

I'd pick the Wii any day of the week -- the library is bigger, more varied, more interesting, and you can still play the handful of GameCube games worth playing that haven't already been remastered for the Wii.

Irixith gets 2 racket-points for name-dropping F-Zero in a statement about 3rd party games.

I disagree with these statements.

Come now, SMS is no Galaxy 1 and 2, but it wasn't a total disgrace.

I like both systems. The gamecube did seem to be geared towards the younger crowd with some surprises thown into the mix (I am looking at you Ikaruga). The Wii on the other had after you get past the motion controls and the shovelware has some games that are for the hardcore as well as the casual player (I am looking at you Donkey Kong Country and Xenoblade Chronicles). I see where Nintendo was trying to market however there are titles that are for the hardcore. No console is perfect but Nintendo still is one of the best to have systems that have something for everybody. My wife loves Mario Golf Toadstool Tour and Wii Sports Resort. I play Ikaruga and Sin and Punsihment.

Answer: both.

If you mean technical difference, I agree. Wired controllers became wireless, same for network access, memory cards became embedded with auxiliary storage on SD. Nintendo's own dev documentation states Wii developers should target about 150% of the GameCube's power. And many seemed to not muster that. Even putting aside the softness of the stretched image or the allegedly inferior DAC for component.

I agree that for at least a while, developers made an honest effort to develop reasonable fidelity ports across Xbox 1, PS2 and GC. I haven't tallied up the list but thinking about the sports and adventure and Tom Clancy games that were ported across the three platforms I might believe it exceeds the Wii in terms of non-kid, non "Wii-i-fied"* cross platform games.

* turn it in to a rail shooter, turn it in to a mini game collection, etc.

Can't pick between the two. I agree they don't seem a generation apart so I say just think of them as half brothers.

Your opinion on the subject is a good one
