I just tried playing a bit of Shining in the Darkness, having picked up the Sega Megadrive Collection Gold for PC. I loved the setup at the start where you're talking to the king and his advisors, then going and looking around the village. I then entered the dungeon, and stopped enjoying it.

Oh yeah, i almost forgot- Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
I spent over 100 hours 'playing', but at that point i realised that i'd made so little progress, and the story wasn't particularly evolved anyway, that it just wasn't worth it any more. The setting, monsters and character design are pretty much flawless, but I really hated grinding for monster parts and random drops, and felt that i'd wasted that 100 hours.
Sure, i've seen those vids of people owning the monsters whilst not even wearing any armour, however for me, whilst i do like learning a game's system to play well, it felt like MH raised the bar a bit too high for my ability, so i needed the extra edge that better equipment gave, and cue more grinding. Bah.

This is true is looks like a huge undertaking but really it's just a good long game kinda like shenmue which is 3 disc's but really it's not that long it;s more how you play it.AppleQueso wrote:Xenosaga.
FFVII isn't any longer than any of the SNES games. Don't let the 3 discs fool you, all that space is literally taken up by FMVs.harper wrote:Funny you should mention it. I just popped Final Fantasy VII into my Playstation earlier (for the first time ever) and I was literally thinking "the music is pretty awesome but I can't see myself even making a dent in this game". Not that I dislike it (I didn't play enough of it to really form an opinion) but I prefer the look and feel of 2D sprite based RPGs and geez the game is 3 discs long. haha I dunno, I might try to get into it but I just don't see it happening.

Some others offhand...
Distant Worlds - as the video shows, this is an in-game thing, kind of an epilogue for CoP.
Promathia boss music
Alexander fight
Bustle of the Capital - Imperial Whitegate town music.
Sanctuary of Zi'Tah
I've got others burned in my brain from early years playing, but have long since turned music off. Not that it's bad, but, eventually you want something else...

Mostly very peaceful/ambient tracks.. So I suppose if that's not your cup of tea they might not seem so great. The music really helped balance the MMO gameplay for me (grinding and spending a lot of time in one zone) when at the time this game was released most MMO music was pretty generic and boring.
edit - Good picks isiolia, and beat me to the reply
