I've found that there are some games that I really like the music, but not the game play itself; and some games I really like the art but I can't stand the voice acting. Things like that.
So even though I don't like a game, I've found that I can be a big fan of the art or the music.
Have you ever liked the (art/music/story) but not the game?

Re: Have you ever liked the (art/music/story) but not the ga
I just made a post in the "Random Gaming Thoughts" thread last night about Tempo for 32X. I love the art/graphics of that game! But the game itself is just terrible.
Mega Man X: Command Mission is an RPG with really great visuals and character designs. Unfortunately the gameplay itself is as bland as can be.
I'm sure there are other games I could think of, but I'm blanking at the moment.

Funny you should mention it. I just popped Final Fantasy VII into my Playstation earlier (for the first time ever) and I was literally thinking "the music is pretty awesome but I can't see myself even making a dent in this game". Not that I dislike it (I didn't play enough of it to really form an opinion) but I prefer the look and feel of 2D sprite based RPGs and geez the game is 3 discs long. haha I dunno, I might try to get into it but I just don't see it happening.

For me, I've loved the music of Ys but the original (well combo disc, I & II) gameplay is really tedious and not so fun with heavy grinding and all. The music I've been listening to ever since it came out and I found out the CDs worked in a regular CD player.

Xenosaga.
FFVII isn't any longer than any of the SNES games. Don't let the 3 discs fool you, all that space is literally taken up by FMVs.harper wrote:Funny you should mention it. What about Xenosaga did you like? If music, any youtube/music clips in particular?AppleQueso wrote:Xenosaga.

I guess the story/characters and all that. Had a pretty cool universe. Definitely very sci-fi 'anime' feeling, but it worked really well so I don't have any complaints in that department. I liked that Shion was a very different kind of protagonist for a JRPG. Hell I even liked the voice acting, it was very solid dub work.D.D.D. wrote:What about Xenosaga did you like? Music was pretty well done too, but there wasn't very much of it.
The big problem was that there was so much story that you literally were watching the game's cutscenes more often than you were actually playing the game. Seriously, it actually puts Metal Gear Solid 4 to shame in some areas.
Gameplay itself was fairly boring too, just walk around one of many various labyrinths for a while and fight baddies. The whole 'boost' system was kinda interesting, but the battles ended up feeling like a slower, clunkier, less polished version of the battle system from Final Fantasy X. It just wasn't very fun.

Yeah, I probably should've elaborated to begin with.D.D.D. wrote:Gotcha
I would say that Xenosaga would make a great anime, but they actually did make an anime series based on it. What I saw of the anime wasn't very good. Pacing is botched to hell, you're actually better off just watching the game cut-scenes.

It's either Tekken 4 or 5, but one of them was crack for the eyes (they usually are) but the game felt empty.
A ton of effpeeess's. Throw all the stones you want, BIOSHOCK is a visual feast, but it sometimes feels like a point and click adventure and sometimes outright bores me.
