Is there any reason to own an HD DVD player?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

i toyed with this idea for a long time, but finding players is a pain around here. the movies are SO cheap, though (like a buck or less each). that's the only appeal for me. i dunno. i doubt i would really do it.

Totally, as there was a format war about 6 years ago between Sony and Toshiba (with MS joining Toshiba) - but Sony had the backing of Hollywood (and according to urban legends the PORN industry!!!) and won eventually. Some argued that MS should've step up early, but that is history now.

I'm confident that if the Xbox 360 had used HD DVDs as it's storage medium and had the ability to play movies on the same format out of the box, HD DVD would have won out in the end. Every 360 being an HD DVD player would have been a greater asset than every PS3 being a Blu-Ray player was, considering that the 360 had a year's head start and was selling much better than the PS3 for the first few years of this gen.

I'll try to maintain an HD-DVD player or a combo HD-DVD Bluray player. This is mainly because I always preferred the HD-DVDs over the Bluray versions. Now it is because I have a lot more HD-DVDs and they are cheap and easy to find online.
