Where do you live? 14th floor?

It's dangerous as shit here. 57.9 murders per 100,000 people. 4th most violent capital in Brazil.

Nope, i live in an ordinary house, 65km from porto alegre. this town aint too big, but theres big industries and even prisons around, but its incredibly calm. off course theres crime, but fortunatelly i dont live in the worst part of town. cant compare to são paulo or rio, where things are so much rougher.

My neighborhood:

used to be pretty rough, but it is now one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Charlotte. My wife and I have lived there for nearly six years, and we have never had any problem. It is bordered by some rough areas, however, and there is some violent crime in some of the surrounding neighborhoods. Also, the neighborhood feeds into some of the worst public schools in the city; so, my wife and I will have to figure out what to do with our children when they reach school age.

That said, we are within walking distance to some of the city's best restaurants (and - for my purposes - three pawn shops with low prices and a semi-regular supply of video games).

My Sister lives in Fort Mill, which seems fairly close to your area.

You know what the statistics I've seen on crime don't reflect? I'm glad I asked.

What time the crimes take place.

A shitload of old people, heroin junks, East Europeans and tourists in my town...

As long as you leave them alone and don't look them in the eye for more than 2 seconds, they leave you alone. More or less...

So it's countryside, pretty much. That explains it. Also, Rio Grande do Sul is less violent on the average.

I live in Fontana, California. The neighborhood I live in isn't the safest place, but it could be a LOT worse. I guess a couple of things help:

1) Having stuff like a gate, an alarm system, etc.
2) Having some decent neighbors.

The shit that happens around here if it does, usually is started up by the punk ass Mexican kids that live down the street from us, or the ones that usually walk here from the local middle school near my house. There was one kid down the street from me who kicked rocks out of my front yard and broke my dad's back truck window. A few months later I get a text message from my cousin telling me that she has a kid in the detention unit she works at, that lives close to me. Turns out it's the same kid who kicked out my dad's window with rocks.

Oh and we did have a group of thugs trying to break into the house next to us, in broad daylight, while my dad and neighbor were on our roof trying to fix something. My dad ended up chasing these clowns away but they ditched most of their clothes so neither he, nor the cops, could find them.

I recently moved away from a neighborhood that was starting to go downhill. Houses were broken into and cars getting vandalized. Nothing happened to my place though. I sort of don't get phased by stuff like this as I'm pretty convinced I have guardian angels working overtime for me. When I was a little kid I lived in a particularly bad neighborhood in New Jersey where someone was murdered and the body left in front of my house. Another kid got chased around by someone with a knife at school. I also lived in a neighborhood in Scranton PA, where the cops did a drug bust a block from my house.

Luckily, I live in a pretty good, safe neighborhood now but if there was a burglary or murder two houses down from me I wouldn't even lose sleep over it as I'm sort of used to this stuff. Like I said, guardian angels working on overtime. This year alone I survived a car accident and a severe pulmonary embollism and I'm still alive and enjoying my retro gaming :D

kind of, not pretty much. not exactly the kind of place people go when they feel like "goin to the country", but still, not a very big town, anyway. this town is known for its industries, like gerdau and gkn, and the 3 prisons. people from cities around frequently get suspicious if you say you live in here, cause of these prisons.
